Hands-on: Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction

Recently I was so very lucky to have a hands-on session with the new and upcoming Extraction game!

The Chimera parasite that caused an Outbreak in New Mexico not long ago has suddenly reappeared in multiple sites across the US, deadlier than ever and spreading rapidly. To monitor the parasite and prepare for any future threat, the Rainbow Exogenous Analysis & Containment Team (REACT), a highly specialized and outfitted organization was created.

Almost nothing is known about the evolving parasite, and REACT’s hand-selected operators are the only ones suited to engage, push back, and learn about this deadly new threat. It is your mission to confront the mysterious creatures, known as the Archæans, who are now more lethal than ever before.

Your squad will be challenged with at least 13 tactical mission types, each with changing in-the-field variables that force you to reevaluate your strategy. Whether extracting intel from contaminated nests or hunting down an elite Archæan, you will need to remember your training to succeed.

The Chimera parasite and its evolving Archæans are highly lethal sentient organisms. As REACT hopes to learn from this unique but deadly phenomenon, you will have to count on your teammates and your own instincts to face each of the 10+ parasitic archetypes.

Compete for the highest score through weekly challenges in Maelstrom Protocol and earn exclusive rewards and bragging rights. Navigate through 9 sub-zones that get progressively harder. Meet challenging enemies, fulfill all objectives to proceed and beware of the allotted time!

Extraction is one of those games where you can form an opinion after a few hours of gameplay, but at the same time, I feel like I would play this game for hundreds of additional hours and still feel I have things to explore.

In my hands-on, I was lucky to play with a Rainbow Six champion and a fellow journalist, so straight from the start, I knew I was in a proper team, and in games like these, this is godsent. I have played so many games on various coop sessions that have been a nightmare to play because of the lack of decent teammates.

Extraction, in my short period with the game, is all about teamwork. From slaying big bad MFers to getting overrun by tiny critters to massive tanks that come right at you. Extraction makes you be a team and tackle the challenges as a team.

What I really liked was when one of you gets downed, there is a chance to revive or recover in a later stage. There is this way about having your operators slowly recover from their damage in between matches and I just love it. You just get handled to become a master with all the operators.

Sure, you may like this one female operator with the silencer on her scar, but if she is taken down or even just “damaged”, you will either go on the same mission to rescue her or wait out till she recovers. A very nasty yet so satisfying tactic.

Sure, I wanted to play hundreds more hours to really know what this game was all about, I sadly only played in trio. I want to find out what it is like to play solo. I want to see what the buddy pass is all about, ….

Extraction left me with a very good idea that this game may become the next best thing in coop shooters, can’t wait till the 20th when it finally drops!
