You really have to play this one to fully grasp how much fun it is. I was very pleasantly surprised by several facets of this game, admittedly, I barely ever play card-playing games. It all comes down to basic maths in my mind and if there was ever a subject in school that I hated, it was maths.

The basics are easy, your attacks or lives depend on the stats of every card you are dealt. A card with 3 health gets killed by a 3 or higher attack and so on. It is all really all normal maths and counting that works best. Obviously, you are limited to how many cards you can lay down on the playing board, depending on the overall stats of your main fighter.

As you progress, I know, this does sound all basic, but it follows the game genre to a tee and that is actually a good thing. There are very few surprises and you are left with an overall more than a decent game. I actually had a really funny experience which can be seen in our gameplay video. After beating a “boss”, I got a key and had the option to run towards the door quickly or to face a more violent foe. I just said YOLO and got killed pretty much straight away…

In itself, this is a fun game, but sadly, my gameplay also shows a bit lackluster controls. Like they were meant as mouse/keyboard but got the controller treatment. Having had this experience more than I’d want, Cardaclysm does a decent job trying to prevent a bad experience, but it could be better.

In conclusion, Cardaclysm is another card-playing game that succeeds in bringing a more than decent gaming experience and this time to the Xbox Series X. A recommendation for anyone new to the genre. More advanced players might find it a little easy?
