Review: Razer Anzu smart glasses

Razer has a lot of interesting products in its library, always focussing on the gamer who wants to take things seriously. If you’re shopping for Razer products, you’ll have a wide variety ranging from gaming headsets and keyboards to smart glasses. The Razer Anzu is the company’s take on the smart glasses market and comes with some interesting features. Want to learn more? Let’s jump in!

The Razer Anzu

The Razer Anzu is a typical smart glasses packed with all features you would expect in a modern product. Like many other smart glasses, the Razer Anzu enables you to listen to your favorite music or podcast without covering your ears. The Anzu has speakers built into both arms which will give you the freedom to work on your projects without losing the sound of your environment. This in combination with its special 35 percent blue-light filtering lenses to protect your eyes while working on your computer should be enough to convince a lot of people. The main question here however is how well the device actually performs and fits.

I went for the rectangle version of the glasses which fitted my face perfectly. Like other Smart Glasses on the market, they are a bit oversized ensuring that everyone can enjoy them. Compared to my regular glasses, these are a bit heavier of course but it never really bothered me while wearing them. The Anzu really is ergonomic and never left any heavy imprints, not even on my temples. Of course, this is different for everyone but as you can see on the official website, you have some shape and size options to choose from, all depending on your personal preferences. To make it even better, the Anzu also comes with polarized replacement lenses with 99% UVA/UVB protection to protect your eyes from the sun while going outside too. Scared to mess them up when it starts to rain? No need to worry since the design is completely splash-proof. Razer really thought of everything when it comes to the design but how well does the Anzu perform?

Low latency audio

Since Razer is a company dedicated to gamers, it’s no surprise the Anzu comes with some features focussed on gamers, the low latency audio being its main selling point. Without that option, I noticed the audio had a small delay while playing, making it a bit hard to play fast-paced games. Thanks to the 60ms low latency Bluetooth connection, this wasn’t a problem at all. The game’s audio never stuttered and I could easily enjoy the audio while playing. Do keep in mind however that the audio will always sound a bit hollow and lacks bass due to its design. Since you’re wearing this over your ears, you won’t get the same quality of audio compared to when you would use the Hammerhead or Kraken, the audio is of lesser quality here but it does the job rather well. If you turn up the volume, things are perfectly audible although your co-workers will definitely notice the leaking sounds. If you want maximum audio quality you should use a different Razer product but if you want to hear what you are doing while protecting your eyes from getting too tired, the Anzu is the thing you’ll need.

When it comes to controls, the Anzu doesn’t have physical buttons but works with gestures. The Anzu is supposed to recognize different taps in order to pause, skip songs, etc, sadly, this doesn’t always work that well. I noticed that little taps often didn’t get recognized but actually pressing the right place on the arm did. It’s a bit of a learning curve and it’s not really intuitive, but after a while, I was able to control the Anzu exactly the way I wanted to. Compared to how easy it is to connect the Anzu to my device, I was a bit disappointed with how hard it was to master the controls. It’s not a big issue but it’s something worth pointing out.

Conclusion:

The Raze Anzu offers a great experience when it comes to Smart Glasses and comes packed with all functions you’ll need from it. The audio quality isn’t the best due to its design but the lenses really help to relax your eyes while working long hours. It’s a product not meant for everyone but if you’re on the market for Smart Glasses, the Anzu certainly is worth considering!
