Review: 10 Second Ninja X

10 Second Ninja X is a blisteringly fast, satisfyingly difficult, and surprisingly methodical side-scroller which tasks you with completing each level in ten seconds or less. No lengthy checkpoint gaps. No cluttered control scheme. No hand-holding. Get that three-star rating, yo! You got this.

10 Second Ninja X

Ever wanted to play Super Meat Boy on steroids? Well, 10 Second Ninja X has got you covered. It combines the classic run, jump, don’t die action of Super Meat Boy with concepts from The Messenger/Cyber Shadow to create a high-paced sidescroller that takes a lot of practice to clear. Oh, and it features pirates! So, you don’t have to worry about the everlasting discussion of Pirates or Ninjas (why not both).

In 10 Second Ninja X, you follow a ninja who must destroy robots at a high pace within a set time frame of 10 seconds. Every level is set with a timer, with the player having to finish the level within 10 seconds. Our Ninja has several attacks, including a projectile, that has limited capacity (shurikens). Each level finishes when you have destroyed all targets onscreen. The game features different star ratings for completed levels, with higher stars given to complete the missions faster.

Conclusion

And that’s about it, to be honest. The game is a stress test or a challenge for those who LOVE speed runs. I managed to finish a few levels on two stars, but the three-star ratings are just too difficult for my reflexes. I have watched some footage online of people doing it (and I tried to do it the same way), but I failed hard. Very hard. It features a decent art style, some fun levels but feels quite repetitive in a way. For its price point, it’s decent, and it offers fun for those looking for the next adrenaline rush. If you are looking for more deep gameplay or story, try Celeste, Olija, or even Narita Boy.
