And welcome to another edition of Nick goes Kairosoft reviews! Tonight’s special is Kairosoft’s own Basketball Club Story, a friendly game about shooting hoops against local basketball clubs, of which the local town has … way too many. So if you’re into basketball, you’re probably on the correct court.

Make your very own world-class basketball team! Specialize in one skill? Be a jack-of-all-trades? Or something in between? This time it’s your turn to create your own basketball team, recruit a cast of zany players, and compete against other teams. It’s up to you to coach them to victory, with the added option to build facilities for your clubhouse for your players and visitors to enjoy. Mix, match, and position them however you like!
Sign with sponsors to gain impressive monetary support. Foster them alongside the rest of your team for even more rewards and don’t forget to connect with your local fans through community outreach. The more they learn about basketball, the more passionate they’ll become! With the help of your players, sponsors, and spectators, you’ll create the world’s best basketball team! As always, thanks Kairosoft for providing us with a summary that I have to rewrite due to … Japanese grammar?
Basketball Club Story
In Basketball Club Story, you have to build your own team of all-star basketball players. In this edition, you can recruit a maximum of 40 players. After that, you will have to release a player to recruit a new one. Like in any Kairosoft game, there are a lot of nudge winks to very famous players, of which I missed most (since I’m not a big basketball fan). If you complete the game, any stats gained are carried over to a new game+. The maximum stats for players are 9‘999 – Time for some more Space Jam?
Similar to Pocket School Story, you have to combine different buildings to get the maximum effect at your club. What’s not covered is having a lot of space, requiring tons of money (like most mechanics in Kairosoft games), including a second basketball court should your place gets too crowded. Make sure there’s a pathway or else the visitors can’t come to visit the buildings. A huge difference, however, is that all buildings require you to click “Level Up” to improve the popularity of the facilities. I figured this out a little bit too late on my first playthrough.
Leveling Up & Match Time!
To build the perfect team, you need to train your players; which is done through skills and other means. Skills can be acquired through Drills. Basic Skills are automatically activated as soon as they are acquired, other Skills need to be equipped. However, you have to unlock the limit that your character started out. You start with two skills but you can unlock more so you can mix and match to suit your character and its personality. You’re created character will always have captain from the start.
The matches themselves are automatically played out, in which you turn nobs and push buttons to tweak your defense and attack strategy. Again, I suck at basketball, so I only know the basics. For a seasons fan or player, this might be the best part of the game, since it offers a lot of personal flavor. It went over my head and I just tried to pull through on my knowledge of dunking.
Conclusion
So to conclude, Basketball Club Story offers a complex Kairosoft title, which is best suited for the fans of Basketball. However, if you’re a sports-affectionado, this might right be up your alley as well! It wasn’t the most satisfying title I played, however.
