Review: Panzer Dragoon: Remake

Welcome to our review of Panzer Dragoon: Remake, another game on Google Stadia and this one is a classic in retro circles but how does it perform on a completely new platform?

A new, remade version of the Panzer Dragoon game – true to the original, with improved graphics and controls, that suit modern gaming standards! On a far, lone planet, you encounter two dragons awaken from the ancient times. Armed with a deadly gun from the past, and the guidance of your armored blue dragon, you must fulfill your destiny and keep the Prototype Dragon from reaching the Tower or die trying.

Pilot through seven unbelievably realistic levels ranging from tropical blue ocean cities to intricate subterranean ruins. Fight the Prototype Dragon who appears together with evil giant dragonflies, frightening man – sized wasps, giant sandworms, and lethal flying battleships. Attack enemies approaching from all sides, quickly and without mercy, with improved 360-degree controls and a lock-on targeting.

Panzer Dragoon can easily be called one of the biggest classics ever made and heck, even I own a copy of the Orta game on the original Xbox. It is a game that I sadly also remember as one that is a fun but very short experience. I recalled the game as being very short and I was not disappointed, clocking in at around one hour to topple the seven levels, it is far from long.

In itself, Panzer Dragoon is a flying shooter where you ride a dragon and try to survive as long as possible or until the end of the game. The controls are easy, but in all honesty, my pet peeve, the lack of a tutorial is something I truly hate. It was only after I went into the control scheme, that I remembered the auto-aim, the good old auto-aim. It also suddenly made sense that there was no continuous fire button due to this.

In all honesty, this game is a classic but it did not age well at all. In all honesty, this remake is pretty and all, I love the new graphics, but it is what it is, a very old game that should have been left intact. Not remade unless they completely redid everything, but not in this way. Panzer Dragoon: Remake is actually a boring and bad game compared to any other game that can be compared to this. I am thinking Starlink, … Those are all just so much better.

Now next up in a Stadia review is how did the gameplay on the service, well, I played it in the middle of the night and did not have a single glitch, uploads and downloads were in the usual higher range and that was great.

In conclusion, the biggest advantage to Panzer Dragoon: Remake is that it is actually free for Stadia Pro subscribers, meaning you can just try the game on a free trial month and see for yourself whether or not this game is for you! For me, not so much my thing as I think it aged very badly and well, some games should be left untouched and on their original hardware…
