So I never played the first game, I do own the game, but I got my hands on the collector’s edition and I thought the box was too nice to really give it a try. Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I was able to play the preview level of the hospital and now I got access to the early build and I have to say, aside from the usual crashes and bumps along the road, I am liking this game.
In short, Little Nightmares II is basically one gigantic puzzle game presented in a most charming (and not) appearance. You are the little creature that needs to run, hide, sneak and so much more to escape certain death. At first, you go from running from the groundskeeper that is really hunting you down.
While I generally do not spoil, the ending for the first world was rather unexpectedly dark yet satisfying. It felt very delightful when you finally get to the part just before you set sail to arrive in the second world, the old abandoned town. You slowly pick up more skills along the way, not in the classic sense of the game, but the developers really make you “learn” how to play this game, which is fantastic!
Sure, there are some unexpected puzzles or clues, but nothing seems to be unsolvable. I had some brain breaking puzzles in other games before and Little Nightmares II really pushes the boundaries of the obscure. I loved every part of it.
In conclusion, despite some crashes which will surely not be present in the final product, I really enjoyed the game! I almost drowned, I ran into danger and away from that same danger. I just loved experimenting thanks to the numerous save points. I hope you will love it as much as I did!
