Review: Serious Sam Collection

Welcome to our review of the Serious Sam Collection, a collection of classic FPS games that any lover of the genre should buy!

Experience one of the most explosive shooter game series of all time as you save the world from a merciless alien invasion. Visit the ruins of ancient Egypt and roam through the vivid arenas of South America fighting seemingly never-ending hordes of enemies using an extremely destructive arsenal including shotguns, heavy lasers, rocket launchers, a huge cannon and an iconic minigun.

Tired of playing alone? Go to war against Mental’s horde with up to 4 players in local co-op, blasting your way through the campaign or the stand-alone survival mode. Finally, put your skills to the test against other players in classic multiplayer modes including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and more.

Serious Sam Collection includes all content from Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter, Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter and Serious Sam 3: BFE, including The Legend of the Beast and Jewel of the Nile expansions.

Serious Sam has always been one of the more epic games of its genre, violent to boot and foul mouthed AF. I was actually playing the original games on Steam when I first found out this collection was coming to Nintendo switch and I instantly stopped playing, I just had to do this one on the Switch instead.

As the games have been time tested and most of you know what to expect, a die hard FPS with hundreds of enemies and an Arsenal of weapons all at your commands to kill every single one of them. In a twisted way, a lot of the enemies require real rhythm to beat without getting hit and unless you’re playing at easy, ha, you will need that rhythm to avoid damage. I just love firing a shotgun in the face of a rampaging bull right before they hit me.

Serious Sam has become one of my retro favorites and this Collection is no exception, providing us with a full immersive experience and only a few bugs that annoyed me. I am sure those will be ironed out in the future, but so far they have annoyed me. Allow me to explain a little bit more, at one point I was caught in a barrage of rampaging bulls and ended up dying, taking a full 2 minutes before I went back into the game, clearly making me think the game had crashed on me.

Also had a few audio bugs where the sound would skip a little especially when changing guns, nothing that Really ruins the experience but when you have headphones on at Max volume , because that’s the way to play a game like serious Sam, it can be a little with overwhelming.

Graphically all games look exactly the way they’re supposed to and there is no surprise to the quality of the port here. Never really had any glitches on the visual side of things , so that is a good thing. Maybe a small notice that menus do look kind of small on the switch screen itself, but that is a comment that I have made before on numerous games.

In itself serious Sam plays great and it is a true testament on how ports of game collections should be handled. I personally hope there will be a port of the 4th game coming to Nintendo switch and even a physical collection of this collection as well.

In conclusion, as the games are great I will not really be giving this game a score but more of a thumbs up as in quality overall. I’m sure the small glitches I encountered will be ironed out and then you are left with a really good port of some really great games!
