I loved watching Monster Jam when I was a kid. Seeing those big monster trucks with their outrageous designs filled me with joy. I fondly remember being a big fan of the Grave Digger. Monster Truck Championship lets me relive those years by putting me at the helm of my own monster truck.
Gradually getting better
Monster Truck Championship lets you pave your way to monster truck stardom. You start with a very basic version of a monster truck and only a few events to compete in. Performing well in these earns you money and potential sponsor deals. Signing a sponsor deal and completing the requirements on the deal earns you even more money and unlocks new parts. Upgrading your truck will obviously let you perform better which will be necessary for later events to be competitive. This way of gradually getting better works as a perfect trigger to keep going.
Managing your team
Besides upgrading your truck you’ll also need to manage your team. In the beginning, only 2 spots are open to being occupied by your own personnel. As you perform well more personnel will offer their services to you. Hiring an engine specialist will boost your performance while hiring a manager will earn you more money. Keeping the right balance to fit your own playstyle will be based on your own choices. Luckily, changing personnel is done with no penalty. As you progress further in the game, new slots will unlock to further differentiate your personnel.
Race, drag, freestyle, and destruction
In Monster Truck Championship each event consists of a few different types of games: Race, drag, freestyle, and destruction. “Race” is pretty self-explanatory. The monster trucks control as you would expect. Keeping something so powerful on the perfect line is pretty hard. Controlling the front and back rear and applying the brakes at the right time will prove challenging but never unfair. Drag is a very short event in which you’ll compete in a 1v1 race on a short technical track often only consisting out of 1 turn. Getting a perfect start in this type of event can make all the difference.
Freestyle mode and destruction mode play more or less the same. These modes are what make monster truck shows so awesome. Seeing a monster truck perform a donut or a wall back-flip is pure entertainment. Performing these tricks back-to-back will be needed to stack up the points needed to win. Freestyle mode is all about the jumps and the tricks while destruction mode also throws in stuff to destroy. Combining tricks while also flying through houses and destroying rows of cars might be the main reason you pick up this game.
Adjustable truck
With so many different types of modes to compete in, your truck needs constant tweaking. While new parts can potentially give you more grip, tweaking the suspension might also do the trick. Playing around with these adjustable options results in a different feel which might just suit you way better. Even some specific track might perform well with some precise tweaking. Riding around in the dirt or having to drive on concrete is very much, a different experience.
Conclusion
Monster Truck Championship might not have the desirable license to feature the big names in the monster truck world. But what it lacks in the license department, is made up by allowing the player to have a lot of fun. Monster Truck Championship uses the perfect mix between real and arcade feel to make this a great pick-up for people of all ages interested in some raw truck entertainment.
