Indie Corner: Georifters

Pull, push, and flip the blocks that form the world around you in hundreds of stages. The game has a bubble-gum look to it all with the bright colors. I mean what else can it be, everything is based around candy.

Gameplay

In the adventure mode of the game, you’ll journey across neighboring bubble worlds. This mode is available in both single-player and co-op. The game consists of 6 bubble worlds comprised of around 30 levels with over 300 stages to complete. To complete the stage you need to collect at least one crystal for the gate to open. For the completionist, more can be collected to 100% the game. The “puzzles” to collect (all) the crystals are pretty easy and basic. The battery of the suit you wear depletes when you use a move. You can use 3 moves before the battery is depleted. But rather than limiting you to a specific amount of moves you just have to wait. This really annoyed me, especially because some parts require you to use the same move more than 3 times. I mean what is the point of this. There is no backlash for you using too many moves, it is just there to slow your progress. There is also a cooldown after using your move, this makes the game feel even worse. You get points in the end on how well you have performed but you actually don’t lose points for moving more blocks than you should have but gain point because you performed more actions. This in my mind sums up that the game isn’t a puzzle game at all.

Multiplayer is where the fun begins

Besides the adventure mode, there is also a time-trial mode, also single-player or co-op. Collect crystals along the way to gain additional time to complete the levels.

The last game mode is the battle arena. The same mechanics/move applies as in the adventure mode but there are weapons hidden in the blocks that can be used to attack the other players. This mode can be played with a total of 4-players (local). The goal is to get as many crystals as possible before the other player do. This is the best part of the game although not great either.

You unlock new characters and costumes the more you play. The characters all have their different abilities which give you the option to play the game as you want. But in the end, this doesn’t matter because there is no challenge in the adventure mode of the game.

Presentation

The overall presentation isn’t great either. The character models have also some rough edges around them, characters clip through the grass and the textures of some object could pass as Wii or PS2 textures.

The game contains some story and dialogues but quite frankly I couldn’t feel to care for the characters for even one bit.

Conclusion

The whole game has a fun concept but isn’t well executed. This isn’t a game I want to go back too. The possibility for multiplayer and coop are a nice addition but when the game isn’t fun it doesn’t matter.
