Rainbow Six Siege: Shadow Legacy is the third season of year 5, and it’s going to be a real game-changer. We already got our hands on this exciting new season, adding 1 new yet familiar operator and the revamped Chalet map plus tons of new features and changes that will change how the game is played in a better way. This season will be a blast for veteran players and it’s definitely worth hopping on as a new player.
Enter Zero
Turn on your night vision goggles because Sam Fisher joins the Rainbow Six team under callsign Zero. You may know him from the famous Splinter Cell games where he uses his stealth and gadgets to overthrow his enemy. Our now older Sam will be a fierce opponent in the Rainbow Six team, as a 2 armor 2 speed Attacker equipped with an Argus launcher that shoots out a surveillance tool for your team; which gives you a vision on both sides of a destructible or reinforced surface, but that’s not its only use. As Zero you can use a 1-time use taser per camera meant for taking out defenders gadgets. Not only does he have an amazing gadget, he is also equipped with some very good guns. For example his signature SC3000K assault rifle you may know from the Splinter Cell games, if you don’t like that, he also has got the MP7 you can choose as your primary. As for the secondary weapon he is equipped with the 5.7 USG pistol with an integrated suppressor to suit his stealthy character. He is a blast to play and brings great support for your team as you will have a lot of info with your cameras and will deny some important gadgets the defenders will use to stop you from entering the objective. It will take a while before I know how to use the full potential of his gadget but once mastered he will be a big threat for the enemy team for sure.
Revamped Chalet
The update also comes with a reworked Chalet. The time I had my hands on the new map, it really made me see how much better the gameplay is on the reimagined Chalet. With the balcony gone and being replaced with the new solarium on the second floor that connects to the master bedroom and has a staircase connecting the trophy room on the first floor. The upstairs hallway has also seen some changes opening up some more space with the new piano room. That is not all, the first floor has also been worked on with the bar being larger and some new drone holes to escape from defenders during the droning phase. Breaching in the garage from snowmobiles will also be a bit more challenging with a new window that looks out from above, so better lookup before your team gets blasted by a nitro cell. The map feels really balanced and is very fun to explore, I can’t wait to see the new angles the community will find after getting their hands on the revamped map.
More features and improvements
Sights and ADS settings
This update brought a lot of new or improved features in the game that will change how the game is played in multiple ways. For example, 5 new optics have been added to the game with magnifications ranging from 1.0x zoom, 1.5x zoom, 2.0x zoom, 2.5x zoom (which is the familiar ACOG sight), and for DMRs there is 3.0x zoom. They didn’t just add new sights in the game, you now have the possibility to customize your reticle by changing its color and opacity. Another feature they’ve added is the option to change your ADS (aim down sights) sensitivity for each sight separately, which is a very nice feature to have especially with all the new sights they added this season.
Also coming to the game is the anticipated match replay system. This will let you rewatch your last 10 games in spectator mode or from any player’s perspective. But it doesn’t stop here, there is also the ping system 2.0. You can now use regular or contextual pings while controlling a character, drones, or cameras. If you ping an opposing team’s primary gadget the operator will be revealed (the enemy’s position is not pinged when you do this, but the operator’s icon will be shown at the top of the screen), this is handy for your team to know what they are up against. Every player gets a number assigned to them at the beginning of the match, because a regular yellow ping will now show your number on the ping, this makes it easier for your team to know who pinged what which will make communication easier as you’re playing.
Reinforcement changes
As a siege player myself, we all know that moment when your roamer just runs away and doesn’t reinforce his part of the objective. Ubisoft found the perfect solution for this everyday problem, instead of having 2 reinforcements as a defender each, your team now has a shared pool of 10 reinforcements no matter the number of players in your team. This change really solves 2 problems at once, because you now don’t have to worry about not having enough reinforcements when you have someone in your team that left, and it solves the problem of people not reinforcing at all. I think this feature will improve how the defenders will play and make good use out of this new shared reinforcement pool. To counter the fact that objectives will be reinforced better and more now, the attackers also got a new toy: The Hard Breach Charge. This charge is a secondary gadget available to some attackers that will make a medium-sized hole in any breakable surface, including reinforced walls. Once the charge is placed it will immediately start making the hole, the progress of making the hole itself is pretty slow so be careful of any defenders trying to destroy it before it detonates.
Conclusion
This update will be a big game changer and is a joy to play as a veteran and definitely worth hopping on as a newbie. Especially since a lot of these new features and improvements make the game overall feel really nice. The new operator blends really well in the Rainbow Six team and will be a valuable asset to the attacking team and a big threat to the defending team. This update really shows how committed the developers are with this game, and I am really excited to see what the future will bring for this game.
