Review: Catherine: Full Body

Welcome to our review of Catherine: Full Body, a truly messed up experience of a lifetime!

Dark. Intense. Intoxicating.

Our indecisive protagonist, Vincent, has been with his long-time girlfriend, Katherine, for five years. But instead of taking the next step into marriage, Vincent finds himself in an affair with the provocative blonde bombshell, Catherine! Thrown into discord by his own infidelity, he finds solace in the innocent Rin – further complicating matters. Adding to Vincent’s dilemma, he begins having nightmares that force him to climb for his life… Will he survive the trials and tribulations of love, or fall to temptations?

This mature action-adventure puzzler will thrill players with a story that delves into relationships and the difficult choices we make. Choices that will determine your fate in multiple story branches and 13 available endings.

Overcome challenging and addictive puzzles to survive the nightmare and play on the go: whether it’s Versus or Co-op mode, it’s never a baaaa-d time to play with your friends…

Original Catherine: Full Body add-on content now included in-game (Catherine ‘Ideal Voice’ Set, Playable Character Set, Persona 5 Joker Character & Commentary Set, Bonus Content: Horn-Rimmed Glasses)

Catherine is quite possibly the biggest mindfuck you can get in a game and I loved just about every second of it. A totally strange story and at the same time an amazing puzzle mechanic that kept me up many hours at night during my gameplay and unlike the antagonist of the game, I did not get any nightmares from it.

The puzzle mechanic is basically a climb the wall principle. You need to escape in time to pass the level and there are a few mechanics that apply. Some blocks can be moved, some self destructs, others are unmovable, … All to make the puzzle harder and harder and at times only allowing for one move to advance.

You can also hang onto cliffs and the openings in between some blocks. This mechanic allows you to slide over to an opening to avoid certain death. As you finish more and more levels, you also get taught the way to solve certain puzzles as efficiently as possible, making for quite the teaching moment. Certain block movements can block your progress too…

What I also loved, there is a mode that allows the game to just take over and solve things for you. On the one hand proving that the puzzles can be solved, on the other hand allowing you to skip when you are stuck or even just want to skip the level outright.

As a puzzle game, you’d be surprised how smart the mechanics are, and thinking out of the box can often get you through to the next level. I got to say that I am in love with this side of the game. Talking about the story itself, on the other hand, it is such a weird story and those sheep crack me up every time. Did I mention the hero plays this part in his boxers?

I honestly refuse to go in detail for this review because there is just so much hilarity and total weirdness that surrounds Catherine Full Body that I can only strongly recommend playing the game. I am totally in love with this game or will I end up waking from a strange nightmare?

In conclusion, Catherine: Full Body is one of the best puzzle games I played in a while and after loving the original, this game is just damn near amazing. More of this title, please!
