The first big digital Xbox 20/20 event just ended minutes ago and we can’t stop thinking about all the great games we’ll be able to play by the end of this year on Xbox Series X. This Inside Xbox episode was focussed on third-party support on the system and we made a top 5 of upcoming Xbox Series X games, let’s jump in!
5. The Medium
Bloober Team returns to Xbox Series X with the upcoming The Medium. The developer is known for Observer and Layers of Fear, so they know what they are talking about. You’ll control Marianne, a psychic medium who’s able to see and traverse the spirit world. It’s something she’s used to doing but everything changed when the first dark vision revolving a child’s murder appeared. It doesn’t matter how hard she tries, she can’t escape those vision, forcing her to find out the truth. You’ll have to solve a lot of mysteries and hopefully find the answers before it’s too late. To make it even more impressive, the team is working together with Akira Yamoaka; known for the Silent Hills music. We can’t wait to get our hands on this beauty!
4. Yakuza: Like a Dragon
This isn’t a new game as it released in January but it will mark the first launch in the West, optimized for the new powerful hardware of the Series X. Now that the Yakuza franchise is available on Xbox One console, it shouldn’t be that big of a surprise this one was coming. That being said, it’s a great game to have during the launch period of the console as it will certainly add a lot of fun to the console. Check out the trailer to get a better idea of what’s coming:
3. Call of the Sea
Blue announced Call of the Sea, an otherworldly first-person adventure puzzle game. Set in the 1930s in the isolated reaches of the South Pacific, Call of the Sea sees you play as Norah, a woman who has crossed the ocean in a desperate search for her husband that has gone missing. An otherworldly tale of mystery and self-discovery, Call of the Sea is a love letter to the adventure game genre that follows one woman’s desperate journey – a journey driven by love and longing. What strange secrets of the past does the island hold, and what might she unearth in her quest for the truth?
This game looks extremely promising since it’s bringing a different genre to the console, the trailer really stood out between all the darker and more violent announcements. Wandering around on a gorgeously created island while solving puzzles is something I’m truly looking forward to, especially when it looks this good:
2. Scorn
Independent studio Ebb Software comes with the first-person horror adventure Scorn, releasing exclusively on Xbox Series X on launch. Speaking about the studio’s collaboration with Xbox, Scorn Game Director Ljubomir Peklar said: “For us as developers it’s imperative to present Scorn in the best way possible. The distinctive art style is only half the story – the other half is having all the technical parts of the game running smoothly. That’s where our partnership with Microsoft and their next generation Xbox Series X console comes in. Xbox Series X is an extremely capable piece of hardware that will enable us to run Scorn at 4k 60fps with all the graphical bells and whistles. Ease of development and raw processing power are the primary reasons we chose to go exclusively with Xbox Series X. Players on Series X will experience an uncompromising version of Scorn.”
Scorn lures players into a claustrophobic underworld populated with misshapen organic forms dripping with unnamed fluids. You will find yourself entirely alone, with only your senses and instincts to guide you through the non-linear nightmare of interconnected spaces. In Scorn, the environment is itself a character and will do its best to unsettle and unbalance you. Each location has its own puzzles, characters, and story to tell, all of which combine to create a cohesive world. On your journey through the game, new areas, skills, weapons, and items will be unveiled as you attempt to comprehend the unfolding reality of Scorn.
The atmosphere of the reveal trailer is reason enough to get us excited:
1. Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla was previously confirmed to make an appearance during this Inside Xbox episode and it didn’t disappoint at all. Although the gameplay trailer was kept rather short, it offered a first glimpse of what’s to come and there are simply too many reasons to get excited. If you’re into Viking lore, this game has it all. The brutal combat, the adoration of icons, the raven, the invasions…. And even Stonehenge! Oh, and we can’t get over that stellar soundtrack. Here’s hoping we can get our hands on the game as soon as possible.
