Welcome to our review of Wintermoor Tactics Club. A new tactical RPG where they hold the most important snowball fights ever?
It was hard enough for Alicia to make friends at the prestigious Wintermoor Academy before the whole school erupted into a snowball tournament! Now, her tiny Tactics Club must transform from nerdy nobodies into the heroes they play in their tabletop campaign, or they’ll be disbanded forever.
Discover the sinister truth behind the War of the Clubs in this cozy tactics RPG. Test your strategic mettle against an avalanche of strange and colorful characters. And don’t forget to make new friends! Tactical combat with a focus on accessibility, but with lots of depth and customization.
Get to know Wintermoor in visual novel-inspired gameplay. Break down the walls between high school cliques such as Psychic Detectives and Young Monarchists. Write tabletop campaigns to help students overcome their personal problems, and discover their fantasy selves as your club grows.
The team behind Wintermoor Tactics Club called its own game a cozy tactics RPG and they hit the nail right smack on the head. Wintermoor Tactics Club is a game that feels comfortable straight from the start and the possibility to really go all out and influence the difficulty is the first thing I appreciated. For storyline purposes, in the end, I switched to a little easier as to not waste my time and just move a lot faster.
Not that there any pacing issues, the game is just fine, I just wanted to go a lot faster. Take in the fun story that weaves the tactical battles together and I must say I am quite charmed by this game. From a quirky set of characters to the perfect switch between tutorials and the storyline, this game is so much fun.
The actual tactics game is also quite through, based upon basic Dungeons and Dragons principles, I had some nice upgrades during my gameplay. Storywise, the band of geeks in the Tactics club gets to meet a ton of weird people such as the equestrian club or the psychics. They get joined by a former foe, claiming to know why oh why the principal decided on these weird snowball fights. The survival of their club and them becoming the ultimate club in the academy depends on it.
There is however 1 thing that did kind of irk me a little. When you are moving around the map, you are limited in your movement as you can not just move right and then straight out of the room in a swift movement, you need to wait till the door gets highlighted and then you get to leave. A small remark, but it did at times slow down the game. Especially when it is 3 am and you want to finish that level so you can go to bed….
In conclusion, Wintermoor Tactics Club is quite fun and has equally nice graphics. I would recommend it to any fan of the genre! I did play parts on my Surface Pro, so touch screenplay is very much an added bonus!
