Indie Corner: Infinite Beyond The Mind

Welcome to our review of Infinite Beyond The Mind, a new arcade-style platformer out now on Nintendo Switch!

Do you stand a chance against the wicked Queen Evangelyn and her army? You’re the last hope to prevent her world domination!
Infinite Beyond The Mind is a slick 2D action-platformer where you take on evil Queen Evangelyn Bramann, ruler of The Beljantaur Kingdom as she works towards her dream of world domination. Play as either Tanya or Olga, two girls who have the power to stop the Beljantaur Kingdom’s growing army and take down the evil Queen.

Take on a range of different bosses in either single-player or co-op across a variety of stunning chibi pixel art style backdrops as you explore the Beljantaur Kingdom.

Your agility is the key to your survival on the battlefield and your strength is what will prevent the Queen’s reign of terror from taking over the world… Do you stand a chance against her Majesty?

Spoiler alert, you will need some nimble fingers to really master this game’s mechanics but once you do, you will really start to appreciate this game and how it was put together. While the game itself can be called another pea in the pod, the swift action does give it its own spot in an overly congested eShop on Nintendo Switch.

I especially liked the option to swiftly slide through a Bulletstorm and be protected throughout the entire slide movement. Once you get out of the move, bam, boom and kabang onto the enemies. While it is very easy sounding and all, it is far from easy to truly master. My advice is to play the tutorial, that is very needed to do.

There is this wall climbing mechanic that got me annoyed because for some reason, I could not perform this properly, not on my Joy-Con, my second pair or my pro controller, I kept falling down halfway. I found a way ’round it, thankfully.

So where is the caveat? Not really any issues with the game aside from being another one in an already crowded eShop like I mentioned before. The fun boss fights can not save this game from being average. The platforming is not the best, but only rarely do platforming mechanics in these games really impress me anymore.

I am not being shallow or ungrateful here, on the contrary, I am glad there is so much choice on Switch and in gaming in general. I am so sure many gamers out there will fancy this game a lot more than me, but sadly, I could not get a great experience from this game. Aside from the boss fights, those were fun, this game just felt mediocre to me. I wish I had a different opinion, it feels like I want to like this game but just can’t

In conclusion, Infinite Beyond The Mind is just another game in a genre that is already overrepresented on Switch. Sadly nothing sets it apart from the rest. It is fun to play, but not as great as I had hoped.
