Defeat the Corrupternment, usurp the regime, it’s a Netherworld Revolution! This is a story that begins in Hades about changing the world!
Valvatorez, a Vampire who works as a Prinny Instructor in Hades, the Netherworld’s prison. He used to be a notorious tyrant in both the Human World and the Netherworld. However, every since a certain incident, he forbade himself from drinking human blood. Consequently, he has lost most of his power.
He despises injustice and follows his own ascetic point of view about evilness. He never breaks a promise or a contract. He loves sardines.
Disgaea 4 Complete+ is in its core your every day Nippon Ichi Software RPG. A strategical RPG where you use the playing field and plan out your attacks. Disgaea 4 Complete+ has tons of added fighting mechanics like big attacks, stacking mechanisms and so much more.
Like usual, the controls are a little complicated at first. There really is a lot to learn so you will get overwhelmed with information. To give you an example, after your first tutorial fight alone, you are introduced to three new places, including a weapon and potion shop. The Netherworld is very extensive and it really can be too much.
In battle mode, first you pick your fighter, you move him or her into position and decide what to do next. Do we use our fighter to do a special attack or use brute force to decide the winner. At first you can mostly manage to get by by using brute force, it does change at one point and then… The the game really starts.
The story becomes more complicated and before you know it, you are facing intrigues and harder fights than you imagined just mere hours ago. I often felt the game difficulty did spike at times, but I had this impression in previous games from the same Nippon Ichi Software catalog.
And despite not being the greatest fan of this genre, I do enjoy playing the Disgaea games. They are funny and often very big and interesting. Disgaea 4 Complete+ started off with the main guy making fun of the Prinnies for not saying DOOD. Their classic way of speaking to everyone. Fun fact here, the EU store support does this too. I have had some really fine experiences with them in the past when ordering from their stores.
Disgaea 4 Complete+ is a game I would not buy, to be honest. I guess you can say I have a sort of love-hate relationship with these games. I love the anime intros, the storylines, the humor but I find the battles long-winded and often overly complicated.
Some previous battles of mine, where I ended up stacking fighter on top of fighter on top of even more fighters… It took so long to set it up and despite the grand payoff of this system, I feel like it is more of a chore to get things going. Sadly, Disgaea 4 Complete+ was no exception.
In conclusion, Disgaea 4 Complete+ is a great buy for fans of the genre, a beloved franchise that always delivers to its fanbase. Personally I am not its biggest fan, but I do see the appeal in the franchise. For the money spent, you are getting a lot of value!
