Welcome to our review of the Ittle Dew game that was just released on Nintendo Switch.
Classic adventure formula boiled down to the essentials.
Adventuress Ittle Dew and her sidekick Tippsie crash onto a strange island, filled with loot and mysterious inhabitants. It quickly dawns on the duo that this might become their biggest adventure yet.Ittle Dew boils down the classic adventure formula until there is only fun left.
We’ve boiled down the classic adventure formula to just three items, designed to work together in more or less obvious ways. There are hundreds of ways to combine them so experimentation is key! Filled with hundreds of secrets and shortcuts, this game is designed for speedrunning and you’re encouraged to complete the game with different setups of tools and weapons.
Ittle Dew is quite the experience and despite its shorter length, it is truly deserving of your hard-earned cash. This game originally came out to the Wii U, PC, IOS, Android and even the Ouya, a long-forgotten console wannabe. As a 2D adventure game, the similarities to some of the bigger titles are easily noticeable and I frankly did not care, Ittle Dew plays great and felt like a fun game.
The majority of your short playtime will be spent solving puzzles or defeating enemies. I say short and I mean it, I finished it at exactly 151 minutes into the game. I guess my long-time experience playing puzzle games and the likes did not do me any favors while playing the game. I was often able to see what needed to be done and all it took me, was the time to execute things.
Maybe at one point, I was even hit by nostalgia, despite never having played the game before. I felt like I was playing an old skool Zelda with all the special weapons and how to use them in unison with each other. Light the bomb, freeze it, blast it away towards a distant enemy and watch them explode! I simply adored it.
So are there any bad points?
In the beginning, it did take me a while to get used to the fighting mechanics. I often missed hitting an enemy or got hit by a fire pit for coming too close. But at the same time, being unable to get hit by spikes in the ground…. That really rocked! I am usually one of the people that dies the very first time they step on spikes, mostly just me being careless or purposely trying something new. But Ittle Dew did do things right on this part.
Something I did like a lot, the map showing details and the tips for those in a pinch! Puzzle games can take a toll on you at times when you really do not get it and Ittle Dew makes sure you do not burn out on the game and that you will keep interested and having fun!
In conclusion, Ittle Dew is short but powerful experience. It will get you slaying enemies and solving some of the most fun puzzles I have played in a while. I honestly wish I could start this game anew one more time so I can experience it all again.
