Scrap Rush! is your every day 1 screen game and while you do have a Bomberman feeling while starting the game, it is something completely different. You basically got pushing powers for the blocks on the field and you either move em one field forward or you power up and just shoot em down the direction you are facing. When no blocks are available, you can make them by spending your coins.
In itself a very simplistic approach and battle game, but I have to say, I had fun playing this silly game. It started off very slowly and the more you do, the more power-ups you can achieve/collect and thanks to them, you speed up both physical movement and the punching ability.
As those improve, so does the fun element as the game becomes more and more energetic. The build-up is slow but enjoyable, it does not even bother me that it starts off slow. Scrap Rush! is actually balanced just fine and the attention to detail in this regard is clearly noticeable. You just know they spent time balancing every little thing.
Like those forced movement blocks. You step on them and it forces you down the line the arrow faces. Even when hitting a piece of scrap onto one of these blocks, they fly at the indicated direction. Mind you that you can end up self-destructing yourself when you get hit by throwing a piece of scrap in the way of an arrow facing your way. Man, I got offed at least twice that way, making me feel both stupid and grateful that this system exists.
In conclusion, Scrap Rush! is a simple approach to a fighting genre but it just works. I had fun and to my surprise, I have actually already recommended it to a friend as a great way to spend some time on his commute to work. The price point may be a little steep but the free demo is always a bonus to see whether or not you will truly enjoy a game!
