Indie Corner: 39 Days to Mars

39 days to mars is a 2-player co-op adventure. With a unique 19th century design. The game has the two players manage the most unreliable spaceship ever. The dev team ‘it’s Anecdotal’ did a great job by combining the 19th-century tech and setting with the sci-fi theme of space travel. If you don’t have a friend to play with you will get the aid of a computer-controlled cat.

The story of two friends called Albert and Clarence who decide to build a spaceship using all parts they find lying around the house is bound to have a huge component of humor in it. And humor it has! This game had me genuinely laughing a lot at the beginning, but some of the bits came around a bit too often and became bland rather quickly.

The spaceship is really unreliable and breaks down abnormally consistent. And every time you inspect something that broke down one of the friends needs to have a cuppa tea or a scone first. These tasks have some tedious mechanics that will make you want to strangle your companion for not doing exactly what you envisioned for them. When the thirst of hunger is relieved you finally get to fix the ship. These problems are fixed by solving puzzles. These puzzles are a lot more diverse than tea and scones. However, the mechanics are still made to get under your skin.

Not to say that the mechanics are a bad development job, they were made to be extra hard. Which I can respect a lot. I really loved playing this game and really recommend it if you have a friend to play with. If you play this game with your wife/husband/girlfriend or boyfriend, be prepared for a rough test on your relationship. You might not recover from the ragequitting and swearing that comes forth from retrying the same puzzle for the 20th time.
