Welcome to our review of what might be the last game on 3DS: Persona Q2 – New Cinema Labyrinth.
DOES THE LONE GIRL THEY MEET THERE HOLD THE KEY TO EVERYTHING?
While driving through Mementos, the Morgana Car suddenly loses control!
The Phantom Thieves stumble through a mysterious space and find themselves in an unknown, strange city filled with opponents they’ve never seen before. They barely escape with their lives by fleeing into a movie theater—with no exit.
Inside this theater, they meet Nagi, a genteel woman with elegant clothes, and Hikari, a quiet and reserved girl, who inform the team that they emerged from the movie screen. It is within the labyrinthine confines of this movie world that other Persona wielders are seemingly guided into meeting one another.
Will the Phantom Thieves ever be able to escape the theater?
Persona Q2 – New Cinema Labyrinth is quite possible the last noteworthy title for the 3DS and Atlus delivers big time with this title. The title is a great entry in the Persona franchise and it is all about escaping this strange place the gang has been caught up in. With tons of cinematic interludes, this game is very high end and I can not stress this enough, this game is great!
When you go out of the theatre, you are tasked with drawing a map of your surroundings in an easy to use the bottom screen. It’s been a while since using the stylus and I admit, the step back into the 3DS mechanics is very easy. Before I knew it, I was mapping out the place and placing various items like stairs, treasure chests, … on the map.
In between walking around, you are obviously faced with the typical RPG battles. Persona Q2 – New Cinema Labyrinth is an RPG after all and all the mechanics are right there. Your Personas are only working outside the movie theatre and the place is basically a safe zone in the game. You will meet more and more people along the way as they seemingly pop up when you unlock more and more bits of the map.
Weirdly dressed siblings in blue, two wardens that seem to have taken control of Morgana the cat, … So many things happening and they will indeed keep you very busy. The game also throws a few curveballs at you in the story, but you know me by now, I do not spoil. I can only say the story is very strong.
Another thing, the secondary Persona. You can suddenly equip a second Persona, though not remove your primary. This adds more power when fighting Shadows and once you truly get powerful, you can finally take on those FOE enemies….
Persona Q2 – New Cinema Labyrinth really offers a lot of fun and the variety of attacks alone will stun you. I love the all-out attack and well, it does not bore anytime soon. There is a lot to do and learn about attacking too. You got really weak and also very strong attacks against certain enemies and it does pay off to keep your minds at things instead of just letting them attack. Yes, that works but it might eat into your items and you may want to avoid that.
One small fun thing, you can see when you are about to hit a fight. There is literally an indicator telling you when the battles will trigger and you might use that to your advantage to warp back to the movie theatre when you are getting low on HP.
In conclusion, Persona Q2 – New Cinema Labyrinth is probably the last major title on 3DS but it is a must own! I had hours of fun and even when I reached 10 playing hours, I felt like I was just getting into the story! The Switch might be the hot commodity out there, but if you own a 3DS (which you should), this is the one to buy!
