With E3 2019 just around the corner, it’s time to publish our yearly predictions. This time, we change things up by trying to predict what the big players will bring to the show. We start off with Square Enix!
Timmy:
Square Enix. My fiend and lover at the same time when it comes to games. I seldom dislike a game, though I often hate the damage it does to my social life. I adore the longer winded RPGs they are so famous for and this is where I start my predictions.
Final Fantasy 7 remake is announced with a release date and it’s coming to all consoles! It will be showcased heavily as the primary title of the show and it will look amazing. Square Enix will announce the game has alternate endings and it is coming to all consoles!
Next up, Dragon Quest, two parts of it. We will see XI on Nintendo Switch with more information than we already had and they will show off some more of that retro style they previously announced. And the second part, we will get a glimpse of a new Dragon Quest game. A game that is played online and I predict the genre to be MMORPG.
Last but not least, the Avengers game. Now that the cinematic movies finished with the Thanos storyline, we will get that one game to ride the waves of success and during the presentation, we’ll get all the intel!
Nick:
I think the big hitter has already been mentioned by Timmy. Final Fantasy VII remake has to be their main feature this year. I really hope gameplay footage will be shown.
A glimpse of what the new Avengers game will be, would be ideally timed. Not much is known until now so I’m eager to find out more.
Next to a possible Dragon Quest reveal I personally am looking for a glimpse of the new Life is strange 2 episode.
Nick de Reiger:
Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy – Did I mention Final Fantasy? I really hope to see something else then FF though. Maybe something new in the realm of I Am Setsuna/Lost Sphere or Octopath? I couldn’t really click with the DQ-series, but I would love to try some of the older ones on my Nintendo Switch, so Square, make the magic happen.
Lander:
Now what I remember from the Square Enix press conference of last year is that it was underwhelming, to say the least. In case you forgot that huge disappointment, you can take a look at last year’s article here. That being said, I think Square Enix will reclaim the throne with a solid line-up.
Starting off with Final Fantasy VII, the safest and most-likely opening to their show. People were excited from the start and I’m really curious about how this remake will be handled. We know it will be an episodical release but other than that, we’re quite left in the dark. Maybe even a surprise release on Nintendo Switch?
Next up, the Dragon Quest game and Avengers game. Both will play a crucial part in the conference and I’m pretty sure we’ll see a lot of new gameplay footage of both. The Avengers game has the potential to steal the show without any doubts.
Since those are the safe bets, I’m also looking forward to the more obscure games. We know since last year that Platinum Games is working on Babylon’s Fall and I think it’s time to showcase this game with a lot of fireworks. I’m a huge Platinum Games fan so if they’ll reveal some explosive gameplay during the press conference, I’ll be more than pleased.
To conclude, Square Enix might squeeze in some nice extra surprises. Kingdom Hearts III DLC, a glimpse at the new Tomb Raider or even a tech demo of their next-gen engine. Unlike last year, I’m really looking forward to see what Square Enix has to offer!
