Welcome to our review of a different type of tower defense! Evil Defenders turn around the concept of good and evil and let you summon skeletons, goblins and conjuring warlocks. All in service of the protection of the evil human population that’s trying to invade your lands.
Evil Defenders is a fun, frenetic defense game in which you build and upgrade your towers, сast spells to repel enemy forces. You can even use special landmarks, like waterfalls or a poisonous cloud to defend the Lands of Evil from invaders! In its core, Evil Defenders is as basic as it can get. You are given a total of five basic towers, which you can upgrade and then further enhance into a specialized tower. My skeletons turned into Dark Knights (heavy armored) or Snipers, while my Archery tower became a grenade lobber or sniper tower. Each setup has its pro’s and con’s, so be sure to test out all the options if you get stuck on a map.
Evil Tower Defense
Evil Defenders plays like every other tower defense game. Set up your towers, let the waves roll in, use the gold to upgrade your towers.. and so on. The game has enough to keep you going through. There is a total of 90 levels, over 15 maps. Each with a natural or historical distinction (from wastelands to Mayan temples). Combine this with 100 achievements, and you can guess where this is going. Each map takes about 5 to 15 minutes to complete (depending on your difficulty setting), so it’s a perfect game for wasting some spare time on.
So, any depth?
So, does this game have any depth, what so ever? Not much, but there is a skills system, which can be used to enhance your gameplay. Upgrade your damage, or add a defense penetration bonus, for example, to make your runs easier. And here is the kicker. Once you are past a certain level, the difficulty will ramp up trifold. So, it’s grinding time. And I don’t know if the game is worth grinding that much of souls to upgrade your skills. Yes, it’s a fun game, and I like tower defense, but .. playing the same level 20 times to upgrade a skill, to gain one, measly level? Meh, don’t know if that’s what I’m looking for in a game like this. Time will tell I guess because I’m certainly not done with this one.
Conclusion:
Graphically the game runs smoothly on the Nintendo Switch, and it’s a perfect fit on a console like this. I used to play games like this on my phone (or even iPod Touch back in the day). So, it’s probably a game that will attract the same audience that plays a lot of games on their phone. So take that into consideration before buying it. I’m back to slaughtering humans, with a fiery demon lord since evil won’t win that easily.
