Welcome to our review of Warparty, a real time strategy game set in the age of the dinosaurs!
Warparty is a real-time strategy game set in the stone-age era. You will build your base, recruit and control a group of soldiers, fight and tame fierce dinosaurs and direct the flow of combat.
WarParty is an old school RTS where players must gather resources to unlock new buildings, units and upgrades, with the goal of destroying all their opponents’ bases. Players can also control a powerful chieftain that they can shape by selecting talents when they expand their settlement. These talents also offer new units or bonuses that can change the way players play.
Resources are limited however and the player will need to step out of his base to gather precious resources required for more powerful units, or capture and hold shrines that slowly give them power points used to summon powerful abilities that can turn the tide of battle. They will have to be careful however, as wild dinosaurs and other tribes roam the map.
Depending on your choices, you will succeed or fail, those are the basic premises of any real time strategy game! Warparty follows that premise closely and truly to the letter of the genre. All of the action is based upon old battle techniques and well, you need to chose wether to go all in with your entire group or to really build up your forces and slowly but surely chip away at the enemies.
In my own gameplay, I tried pretty much all that I could think off, not always very successful either! I often died when I went all in without any preparation. I even tried waiting 5 whole minutes before starting because I had the zombie settings on, resulting in me getting a new zombie every 30 seconds. I still died, but not without taking down several of the dinosaurs lairs. Some of which can be very sneaky little bastards.
I mean it, some of them are really sneaky. At one point, I had one perform attacks where it rushed in on me, attacked me and then after I took some hits, it ran off again. Rinse and repeat a few times and well, needless to say it right, it kicked my ass that way. Warparty showed its prowess at that very moment and it was the time that I felt both disappointment (over losing) and joy (over how I lost).
While this is not the easiest of games, Warparty delivers exactly what you’d expect from a real time strategy game set in dinosaur lands. Nothing more and nothing less. Do you have what it takes to stay alive?
In conclusion, Warparty is a game you can hate but also love. I may not be the biggest fan of the genre, but I did enjoy my time with the game. The tutorial eases you into the game, though it does not ease you into the experience. My rating is a mere 6 because it is on the tougher side and well, that may scare off most casual players.
