As the official PR mentions, this game is a big mix between multiple genres and it does a great job at that too, sporting just regular graphics but basing the entire experience on gameplay as a game should! Let me tell you, I love puzzles and GIGA WRECKER ALT.brings the joy!

As you start the game, you are basically thrown right into the action by means of its tutorial. I have said this before, I love a decent tutorial and this one is great, without any nagging impression or overly explaining things, you head straight to the point and your character is led into the game. Small remark here, you may still feel you are in the tutorial after an hour of gameplay and there is nothing wrong with that!

Slowly but surely, the game will explain everything as you explore along the way. You are literally taught to solve certain puzzles, when a rock formation needs to be used as a lever and so on. It just shows you the ropes and does not annoy. I especially loved the part when it explained how to notice certain violent enemies were overpowered and how to see you could take em on. Without that one line of information, I would have died so many times due to being underpowered.

The game mechanics are well polished and the appeal of attracting those materials and then using them to your advantage, it might sound boring but it is actually a clever way to expand the possibilities in how to equip yourself and as the game teaches you, to introduce new ways of working your powers. The first you will learn, to make blocks that allow you to jump on them and use them as stepping stones. It all sounds so incredibly simple but is so well balanced, you would often feel you are playing a AAA game. Mind you Game Freak is obviously in that category, just that GIGA WRECKER ALT. does not feel like a mass budget game, just a fun mix of genres thrown together.

On top of all the smart decisions, there is also combat, needless to say here that the classical power bumps are all there as you proceed in the game. I must say it again that this game is very well balanced in how it progresses. Not once was I struck by the feeling of power surges or sudden unfair increases in harshness. The balance is what makes this game work.

Graphically, this game is no stunner, it has a nice futuristic look with some classical anime style graphics to support things. Audiowise, I do have some complaints as I had some parts that really got on my nerves in how it was represented. One point sounded like an attacking bee swarm to me, which is not very appealing to say the least. Maybe I misinterpreted it this way, but it just made me queasy at the time.

In conclusion, GIGA WRECKER ALT. may bring some high expectations due to its developer being the famous company Game Freak and while it is no Pokemon, GIGA WRECKER ALT. stands out as a more than solid experience that will provide several hours of fun!
