Preview: Etherborn

Welcome to our preview of Etherborn, a mind-boggling puzzle game made by Altered Matter. The team called in the help of crowdfunding to find enough resources for their unique project. It seemed to have worked since Etherborn is coming to PC and all current consoles later this year. Etherborn is the first project of the team, which gets my hopes up, even more, to see what the future holds.

One of the main mechanics in the game is gravity shifting. You shift the point of gravity by walking onto rounded walls. This mechanic makes for some extremely challenging puzzles that make you feel a bit stupid at times. However, once you find the solution to a difficult puzzle; it’s extremely satisfying.

The character you control is a body without a voice being led by a celestial voice. However, why are you following this voice? Who is the celestial being? Only one way to find out… Continue through the game and its puzzles.

The game has amazing artwork and music that really calms you down, which is necessary if you fail the same level over and over again. The art was inspired by artists of the 20th and 21st century according to their crowdfunding page.

Throughout the levels you will find glowing orbs. These orbs are the keys leading to switches that alter your environment. This together with gravity shifting makes for some quite intense levels at times. The gravity shifts towards the ground under your character. By walking upon a wall, you can access parts of the level that were previously out of reach.

Etherborn is turning into an amazing game. If you can really appreciate the artwork and soundtrack in games and love puzzles then Etherborn is a game to look out for! The poetic storyline of searching our own nature and inner peace makes you think while you enjoy the beautifully made levels. I strongly recommend this game and can’t wait to see how it develops in the final version. This should be added to your wishlist immediately.
