Indie Corner: Awesome Pea

Welcome to our review of Awesome Pea, the brutal game that will challenge your best platforming skills.

Help the greedy Pea make his way through a string of levels filled with deadly traps and cute (but dangerous) enemies and collect all the coins he can reach!

Welcome to the Awesome Islands World! Awesome Pea is a classic run-and-jump platformer, where you must jump through many challenging levels and help the greedy Pea, who is ready to undergo any trials for the sake of gold. Dangerous dungeons, deceptively beautiful nature, hidden deadly traps, and many MANY coins await you!

Clearly inspired by the classical Game Boy designs, Awesome Pea does a great job to live up to the old school feeling of the original Game Boy, not just in the visual department but also in the general feel of the game. As it is a run-and-jump platformer, all you do, is run and jump and hope you stay alive.

Awesome Pea is a rather tough game with your fingers being pushed to the limit. Awesome pea is not just about being skilled but also having the proper feel for timing. All you do is literally go from left to right while staying alive. Jump on platforms, get the timing right when they decide to turn into a spike that kills you and so much more. Jump over ledges, pits, and spikes, use the double jump to get to higher places or use it to avoid incoming projectiles.

Awesome Pea has a lot of obstacles that will do their best to prevent you from acing the level. Do not get me wrong, there is fun to be had, but Awesome Pea is quite harsh and is not for the faint of heart. Get your butt into gear and prepare for the worst. As easy as it may look, this is not the easiest of games. On the contrary, Awesome pea as a game stands for persistence and willpower.

I enjoyed it at first, but once the levels got longer and harder, I kind of lost my interest to keep playing. I got distracted by other games and before I knew it, I had to write this review, knowing fully well that I do not consider this game a game I want to play again. I do not mind overly hard games, but Awesome Pea just did not click with me.

Despite the clear reminiscing of the old school games from my childhood, Awesome Pea just could not keep me interested.

In conclusion, I honestly do believe that games of this caliber will have a lot of supporters. I just could not get into it. My rating is a 6 out of 10, which should have been lower considering my experience, but the proper execution of hitting the nostalgic parts in me, they upped the score.

6/10
