PAW Patrol: On a Roll! is a typical kids game for the youngest among us, a basic platformer with no way to die and thus truly perfect for the very young. Sporting a slower jump mechanic and an actually cute world, it’s your duty to collect puppy treats and finish the overly easy missions.

I am not being sarcastic when I say this game is great, because it was intended for the youngest among us and is near perfect for that age. Based upon the famous animation, Paw Patrol is literally providing the same feeling, something attractive to kids.

While the worlds may be overly easy and simplistic, there is literally nothing you can do wrong, it’s still the best way to introduce kids to video games. Nothing is hard enough, the game keeps assisting you on every turn and while it may not appeal to older kids at all, I thought it was near perfect in what it wanted to present and provide.

There were also parts that I personally did not like. I think the backgrounds could have benefited from a little more pizzazz as they were often rehashed. It might be a little boring once the kids notice, but the main attraction is that this is a franchise game after all. If they like this animation on TV, I am quite sure they will enjoy the game on Nintendo Switch.

In the cutscenes in between missions, there were rather nice animations and easy to understand instructions. They really thought things through and the target audience will most likely enjoy this a lot. Most of the fan favorite puppies from the animation are all present and with some fun mechanics like having another pup help you cross an obstacle, it is not all boring platforming.

On a personal note, as an adult playing this, I can only recommend against buying the game. The target audiences are the toddlers and youngest kids, who will enjoy this game, I am sure of it. Most missions I played took me around 10 to 15 minutes to complete and with 16 missions in total, do keep in mind that there is a projected game time of 4 to 6 hours. The replay function does add to the longevity, especially for kids.

In conclusion, I would not buy this game myself, but if I had kids, I would not hesitate a second. The game is franchise based and is sure to amuse the actual target audience. I am giving this game an 8 out of 10 and I would like to explain why it is so high.

Any adult playing this, might think my review is a joke, but I reviewed it thinking this was for the beginning gamer at the age of 5, adding in the franchise they will love and I can’t really see a reason why they would not like it. It is slow and easy to play, exactly what the age group wants in games. I consider it a job well done, to be honest. It has enough variety to keep a kid busy, just not an adult.
