Indie Corner: Drift Legends

Welcome to our review of Drift Legends, a drifting simulator out now on Nintendo Switch.

The ultimate drift racing experience in the most realistic drifting game around. Drive legendary drift cars on different tracks, beat records, take part in different drift racing events, rise from Beginner to Professional League driver.

So far the official news about the game, it plays quite fine and it is somewhat fun, but in its core, it is just a small game with a lot of options. All you do, build up points by drifting and eventually use all of them to buy upgrades or new cars. It may sound simplistic and let me tell you, it is.

The gameplay is very easy to grasp, the first level is quite perfectly built to let you get used to the drifting mechanics. Do not overdo your throttle and let the car drive through the course, drift when you reach a corner and let physics do the rest.

I really enjoyed being able to drive the single car around and actually feel like real physics applied. I am a very relaxed driver myself and aside from one accidental drift in the past, I prefer a more docile approach to real life driving. In Drift Legends, however, I was able to go all out without any bodily harm, I did manage to end up getting stuck, unable to keep driving when my car was stuck on a raised bit in the race course.

What I did not like, it felt too much like playing a mobile game, which it actually is. It is also available on IOS and Android. I assume they will play equally nice on those platforms. It does feel snappy on Nintendo Switch. It could do however with some variation to prevent the boredom from setting in.

To be blunt, this game is not for the occasional player but for the actual drifting enthusiast. Nothing more, nothing less. Myself, a rather experienced gamer, felt this all the way during my many rounds of playing.

While there are many upsides to this game, the monotone nature of the game for the non-drifting enthusiast or even racing fan… it is a tough nut to swallow, even at its incredibly low price point of 5 Euro. The price does make the game rather appealing if you want to see what it is all about.

In conclusion, I am glad I got to try this game. It is not all bad and I did enjoy the game once I got the hang of the mechanics. Drift Legends is not the best game out there, but it sure has its merits for bringing us a game in a seldom visited genre. Sure, tons of racing games, but just a handful base themselves on the drifting mechanic.

It was fun but shortlived fun for me though. The diversity in options compared to the monotone drifting… A hard one to rate, but I chose to go for a 6 out of 10. The diversity tops the rest just a little.

6/10
