Indie Corner: Tetra’s Escape

Welcome to our review of Tetra’s Escape, a new puzzler out on Nintendo Switch!

TETRA’s Escape is a platforming puzzle-game all about blocks.

Blocks named Tetras and it is down to the players to do all that they can, to save them and make the most out of their special ability.

Via the means of shape-shifting, Tetras can turn into different Tetrominos and used to fill holes and master puzzles, in an attempt to reach the portal on the other side of the level.

But, don’t just go expecting a linear adventure, as sometimes crafting a staircase to the heavens is the only way to make it to the end, so if you dare to dream big and go block mad, you might just have what it takes to bring all the Tetra’s back home!

One space equals one block equals one move equals one jump. Tetra’s Escape is a simple puzzle game, but it is quite smartly made. Some Tetras can switch into what I call Tetris shaped blocks and this is where the puzzling really begins. Not only do you need to figure out how to escape the level, you also need to figure out the best way to grab the three stars and the trophy.

Every Tetra has its own shape to turn into, like the long shape or the L shape from Tetris. You just need to escape the level with one Tetra, but that is where the fun lies. The first few worlds are considerably easy but at one point, it just stops being clear as day and the puzzles are dark as night.

While it is far from impossible to play through most levels rather quickly, it still is a puzzle game. So do keep your wits about. Tetra’s escape is more like a casual game rather than a full experience, but at the price point this game is being sold at, a mere 4,99, you can expect loads of fun and a great value for the money.

On the other hand, Tetra’s challenge is nothing special, I might go as far as say it is just another puzzle game like many already exist on Nintendo Switch and a variety of other platforms. Is it worth the money, I hear you ask, well yes. I do think it is very much worth it, despite being an average puzzle game. It falls short when comparing it to some of my favorites like the box boy games or Sally’s law…

Tetra’s Escape does however not disappoint. It might not be for the avid lover of the genre, but do give it a try if you are in the market for a puzzle game with a lower difficulty level.

In conclusion, Tetra’s escape may not be a sleeper hit, but it sure does a great job being an average puzzle game at a very low price point. This does make it attractive for the quick pickup and quick playing sessions. My rating is positively influenced by the price and 70% it is!
