Check out our interview with NAPS Team, the developers behind Shadow Fighter, the Gekido series and more!
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
We are a team of two passionate guys who have been with video games since childhood.
What was the first console/game you ever owned?
Consoles? We both had Amiga 500 and C64 as our first computers. Our first games were Montezuma Revenge, The Way of the Exploding Fist, Karateka, Secret Armour of Antiriad, and more. With so many memories, it’s hard to go back to very first one.
Do you have any fond childhood memories based around gaming?
Almost half our childhood was spent with gaming, with friends, and gaming with friends.
Did you always want to work in the video game industry?
We always wanted to create a video game and with some art and software skills, we decided to do it. This was still far from wanting to work in video game industry, but that came later.
Can you share a little background into how NAPS team was formed?
We had very complementary skills and didn’t knew each other initially. At some point, we were searching for a partnership to make a fighting game and we casually met sharing our assets (horrible assets), but we’ve never stopped creating and have continually trying to get better since then.
Over the past 20+ years that your studio has been developing games, you’ve worked on nearly all the major consoles. What challenges and opportunities did you face with each new video game console?
Every console presented a familiar bouquet of all previous game challenges, plus a new big technological challenge every new one, due to increasing performances, technologies, resolutions, capabilities.
Which has been your favorite to develop games for?
We love them all each for specific reasons that are usually more than the ones to hate them for, haha.
With over 45 games spread across various genres, what would be your top three games you’ve been most proud to develop?
We are surely proud of our very first titles, Shadow Fighter and the Gekido series. We are also very proud of an unreleased game on GBA called Dark Night that is now getting life into Baldo’s Tale. So yes, that is definitively the third game we are proud of.
Out of all the genres, which is your favorite to work within?
Beatemups and adventures and mixed. Every product end we feel that we can express a lot more on the genre, and wish to do so in the future.
Can you tease any upcoming games currently in development?
Baldo is the game we are currently working on and it’s growing so gorgeously in its gameplay, in the story, in the adventure and so much yet to unveil. Here is a link to the game’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/BaldosTale/
What upcoming games are you most looking forward to playing?
It’s hard to say because we are really curious on many different ones across different genres.
Finally, is there anything else you’d like to share with us today?
We have plans for a new Gekido, but that’s super-secret stuff !
