Indie Corner: Lost in Harmony

Welcome to our review of Lost in Harmony, the Rhythm game that is a must own!

Lost in Harmony is anything but your everyday rhythm game and yet… it is very much a rhythm game. Basically, there is a big storyline in this game, bits and pieces being revealed as you move from one level to the next. Sure, you can skip them, but that is just the core of the game.

There are two main storylines, in the first, you guide Kaito and Aya through their adventures, in total harmony with music. Basically, they are skateboarding throughout the entire level you play. You move to avoid obstacles, you press the right buttons at the right time and so on. It is really so much a rhythm game, but it hardly feels like one while skating around.

Take one of the first few levels for example. You are riding down a pier and at first, you need to evade the seagulls and ships carrying fish. Then you got the battle with the angry sea and if you are lucky, you can just follow the white line of stars, which is mostly the safe path. There is just so much happening at once and despite being leisurely thrown into it and slowly but surely getting harder stuff to do, this game is no joke.

The second storyline is all about MIRAI’s escape, I will let you experience this part for yourself! Do try it out, you will just love it.

In the event of making it through the level with an overall score above 50%, you pass the level and move on to the next one. Each time having a sort of cutscreen between levels telling the story. It is very high octane to play actually. Not violent like Thumper, just right. The cartoonish graphics sure help with that, but again, do not underestimate the speed and skills you will need to pass a level!

Control wise, Lost in Harmony does things exactly how they are supposed to. Move right and the skating couple perfectly follows, move left and they move too. Even the button matching is done quite well and it blends in quite well with the flow of the game. A high paced flow matching the beats of the music.

I often review rhythm games and I must say, between heavy hitters like Thumper or badly controlled Superbeat Xonic, Lost in Harmony does deserve its spot at the top right next to Voez. It brings a casual approach and whole new feeling to the genre and does it with great flair. I am already giving away the high rating I will give this game by saying this, but Lost in Harmony is more an adventure than just another rhythm game, it is so much more.

In conclusion, this game is top notch and does keep your attention at a high while playing. The only real negative thing I can say is that it brings the high paced action straight from the start instead of giving us more time to get used to it. I do think that if you like the genre, this is a very obvious MUST BUY. At a very low price point, this game is getting bumped to 90% instead of 85…

My rating is 90%
