Dragons Never Cry is a game on Steam which you can get for a measly €6. But should you? Well, that why we’re here for you, to give you advise! This is a game made by FireVector and released on the 28th of February 2018. They describe the game as a storytelling casual action/adventure game of a dragon treasure hunter turning into a monster-hunter.
However, the game is more of a top-down coin searcher. You go through stages or levels in which you walk around and pick up coins. There are silver coins, gold coins and some extra hidden treasures which you can, but don’t have to, find. Then you should make your way to the end of the level and proceed to the next one. You are a little dragon and have a little ghost panda companion follow you. When the Panda asks why you search for treasure the good story kicks in; “Because you’re a dragon, you don’t need a reason to want to search for treasure.”. Fair enough I guess?
You encounter some monsters on your treasure hunts, in the beginning just some zombie bunnies, later also some stronger monsters. You are a dragon, so you can breathe fire at them until they die. This looks easier than it is, not because the enemies are strong or because you need skills to aim. It’s hard because half of the time, your mouse pointer won’t go where you want it to go. If your enemy is below you, well try running around him because you can only shoot the other way. This seems to be more of a bug than anything else but still.
Also, the trees and obstacles you encounter appear smaller than they are. Sometimes you think you can pass between two trees because they seem far enough apart, but they aren’t. You have to go around. The art-style is okay but there are a lot of mistakes. The shadows of the characters, both your own as the enemies are on top of your character model instead of underneath it. The game is really slow paced and does not do a good job in telling the story fast enough to keep the player interested.
Dragons Never Cry is a game with a lot of problems. If they figure out all bugs and maybe introduce the story in a little bit of a faster pace, it might be a fun game. However, in my opinion, there are a lot of other games in the same genre that are a lot more fun to play. Because of these reasons I cannot give this game a higher score.
