Steamworld Dig for Nintendo Switch

Welcome to our review of Steamworld dig, an almost 5-year-old but amazing game that was ported to Nintendo Switch!

SteamWorld Dig is a platform mining adventure game with strong Metroidvanian influences. Take the role of Rusty, a lone mining steambot, as he arrives at an old mining town in great need. Dig your way through the old earth, gaining riches while uncovering the ancient threat that lurks below…

Nintendo Switch got a true masterpiece ported when Image And Form Games decided to bring this game to Switch. This is now my personal second copy of the game, I originally bought this game on the 3DS eShop and did enjoy myself very much with it. I thought it sported some of the better graphics on an indie game for the time being.

One might say, another day another port, but that is wrong. I understand that sentiment, however. The Switch is more and more becoming the portable ported-games console, an impression I have had for a while. More and more indie games are coming over after rather successful lives on other platforms. This game is no exception, it’s seen life on a multitude of platforms where it was more than successful. Deservedly so!

You are Rusty, you inherit a mine, you do your stuff in order to advance through the story, all a very basic, yet fun approach to the adventure. You upgrade your items, you buy stuff, you get more stuff. You know, all the stuff that makes up your everyday game. Steamworld Dig does a great job to keep true to the genre.

I will not be singing further praise in my review, this game is great! You know it and you should go buy it already, great graphics, even better gameplay, a glorious approach to platforming and well, enough said, this game is awesome and belongs in your collection if you are into the genre. I will, however, talk about the elephant in the room. Steamworld dig 2 is also out on Nintendo Switch. A game praised for being a perfect iteration of the game. A most powerful successor to a great game.

So should you get the first game, the second or just go for both?

In his review, Lander, our founder, called Steamworld Dig 2 a game you’ll fall in love with. I agree with this statement but I am a purist and I do think you should start off with the first one. Not the second. Start with the game it all began with.

Steamworld Dig represents a great game and now also a game series. Do give it a try and let us know what you thought?
