Even though, The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim has been released a couple of years ago, Bethesda has been a busy bee during the last couple of months to support this beloved franchise. Throughout the whole year, the developers supported their MMORPG and their Online Trading Card Game: Legends. On November 30th, a new expansion has been released to the public for the Elder Scrolls Legends which is called Return to Clockwork city! Let’s see if it’s worth the return…
The Elder Scrolls Legends has been released in 2017 and it was an Online trading card game set in the Elder Scrolls Universe. It set itself out due to its interesting lane mechanics. Your battleground is divided up into 2 lanes and each lane can have a certain “specialty” which can be used to your or your opponent’s advantage. For example, a lane can hide your minions, the first time they’re summoned, or a lane can also cause damage to your minions, … The lane system also adds the fact that you’ll have 2 ways to attack your enemy, as long as there are no guards in a certain lane, you can attack minions or your enemy directly. A unique and well worked out system that brings a lot of excitement to the battleground.
“Since these cards were influenced by Sotha Sil, these cards are very strong and they’re a must if you want to play competitive later on.”
The expansion “Return to Clockwork city” offers over 55 new cards that can be earned by playing through the campaign that consists out of 35 story missions. These cards offer new abilities, monsters, and strategies. The story is all about Clockwork City, a city where Sotha Sil was obsessed with creating his own forms of life, reconstructing and building on the work of Dwemer artisans. These creatures, the Fabricants, were born out of flesh and metal with their own set of special attributes. It’s a story that will sound very familiar to loyal Elder Scrolls fans. Just like Hearthstone, Legends uses its own lore to create new expansion sets.
The new expansion gives the player the opportunity to collect “Fabricant” cards. Each color will have its own set of 5 units, all with special abilities that could alter the battleground for good. These Fabricants are so powerful that they can alter the lane’s ability and much more. Fabricants can force themselves into another lane to gain the tactical upper hand. Since these cards were influenced by Sotha Sil, these cards are very strong and they’re a must if you want to play competitively later on.
Another feature the expansion offers is the “Treasure Hunt” mechanic. The treasure mechanic is all about “finding a treasure” such as a support, item or action type of card, and you’ll receive a major bonus because of that found treasure, in other words, weak creatures can become big beasts in the blink of an eye. It’s a mechanic that will force you to revise your deck, but once the right cards have been added, you’ll be a force to reckon with. There are also Factotums which have learned a special skill thanks to their builder, Sotha Sil: the assembly skill. This skill allows you to pick between two bonuses. Once you’ve chosen a bonus, this bonus will affect all Factotum cards in your deck, hand and on the battleground. These bonuses allow the player for some extraordinary combinations.

Conclusion:
Return to Clockwork City has a great amount of content to offer for its 20 euro price tag. The DLC gives you 55 new cards that can be unlocked, just by playing the story campaign. Later on, all of these cards can be used in your own customized deck which will add to your winning proficiency. The metagame is all about the combinations within your deck, thanks to the Treasure Hunt and Assembly cards. The story is fine to get a glimpse of the story about Sotha Sil, the legendary assembler but the DLC is mostly about the new cards and the effects they have on the meta.
