Review: Spelunker Party

Welcome to our review of Spelunker Party! A game published by Square-Enix!

Spelunker Party was among the initial few physical releases in Japan and was released under the name Minna de Wai Wai Spelunker, and while some may think this game is part of the spelunkey series, it is not. This is Spelunker Party!

One night, a big rumble awoke Spelunkette with a fright and ever since that time, strange things have been happening on earth! Spelunkette and Spelunker set off underground where, according to the faerie, is the source of all the bad things happening!

The graphics are beyond cute and this game, though feeling a little childish at times, does pack a punch and is not easy at all! You are tasked with spelunking through levels, avoiding plenty of obstacles. Ranging from pitfalls, falling rumble, traps and just so much more.

At first, levels are rather simple and they explain the mechanics on how to move down the caves rather well. As you progress, obviously you will be facing more and more traps and enemies as you go. I say enemies, but basically, they are bats that you scare off with a light bomb! It is all about remembering the commands at first, just make sure you do not try to use a bomb and blow yourself up, haha…

The game implements a time limit but in a very efficient way, you run out of air and as you cross the save points, they also refill your oxygen gauge! This is not the only way this game applies real-life physics, there is also the limit of what the human body can handle. You can fall to your death! If you jump a cliff or jump down from a rope and you are too far from the ground… Boom! Death! Run downhill and jump… You will see!

As you progress through the levels,  you will also be able to get help from a pooch that will be so cute on top of your helmet when you are heading down vines or runs next to you down the caves. This game is more than meets the eye, there is also a co-op mode where you join a friend to pass through the caves and help each other solve some of the harder puzzles out there!

Throughout the game, you also pick up coins and all sorts of new gear to wear! This game is so versatile, it is really fun and will keep you busy for a while.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a game to keep you amused for the days before Mario Odyssey hits, this is just what you may be looking for. The advantage to this game, a free demo can be found on the Switch eshop so you can try it out for free and see if it befits your liking or not!

I liked it very much and I am sure it is something that should be checked out! Head on over to that eshop and download this demo!

My rating is 90%, good luck with the demo and have fun!
