Welcome to our review of what might very well be my new favourite puzzle game!
Welcome to our review of Piczle Lines DX, a mobile game that now makes ways onto the Nintendo Switch eshop! This game is a challenging puzzle game and I just adore it! This game is all about connecting corresponding numbers! Connect both using the exact amount of squares used and create a link between both digits. Fill up the entire field by using each square only once and you clear the level!
While this sounds easy, this game is anything but easy, you need to think things through! This is smart game too, it weaves a story mode into the fray, making you reveal special items when you finish a level. Once you start playing, you immediately notice that the numbers come in specific colours and they need to be linked too.
At times, obviously you will end forming the wrong chains and you will need to redo them, sometimes entire parts of the playing field, because 1 wrong chain can block pretty much everything in the region of the playing field you are in.
In between levels you are hit with very pretty anime style interludes, which adds to the appeal of the story mode of this game.
As you proceed down the line, you will slowly go through harder levels and you start needing to really think about how to pass a level. No longer will the numbers be low, but you will be hit with high numbers too, like 10+. Your brains will often work overtime just to get through a level, which is awesome! I love these kinds of games and I hope you try out this game as well.
Aside from the story mode, there is also a puzzle mode, with hundreds of challenges going all the way up to playing fields of 128 by 128! Are you ready for the challenge this brings?
Piczle Lines DX also clearly shows that the Nintendo Switch is also a tablet, even though you can use the controller to play the game, it is clear this game was originally made for playing on a tablet. After playing this game on Switch, I immediately downloaded it on my iPhone, because I just love this game!
Mind you that this game is a free to play game on mobile, but an important note about that! While it is also available on smartphone, where you can get the base version on a free to play basis (which is perfect for giving it a try), this version on Switch actually comes packed with all the extra DLC available on smartphone, with the developer promising future free updates and expansions. The smartphone game with all DLC is now exactly the same price as the version on Switch, but with all the new expansions coming, the version on Switch is a steal!
In conclusion, despite my words of praise, I need to be fair and consider wether or not this game is for everyone. I think it is. You are given the chance to try it out for free on mobile, which is awesome and despite releasing in a very busy period with some big titles in the few days following the release of this game, this game does provide the player a new kind of game, a new variety to the puzzle game and it does so in a great way.
My rating stands at 90%, this game is addictive and fun, play it on the big screen and let friends help you or just play it in handheld when you have a few minutes. This game is a perfect fit for the Nintendo Switch and lets you enjoy all playing modes as it was intended.
