Indie Corner: Infinite minigolf

Welcome to our review of Infinite minigolf, a game promising infinite golf courses!

And yes, it delivers just that, you have a very impressive course creator, but more about that later on! This game deserves an elaborate description as there is so much stuff to talk about.

The game is all about minigolf, but it lifts the genre to the next wacky level by introducing real life objects, like a vibrating smartphone, a living spider, a big sleeping dog and so much more, all used as objects to block your way in some very stunning visuals throughout the game.

This game looks gorgeous but does not play incredibly well, the controls are quite something to get used to, the game lacks more ways to edit the controls. I mean this more as a way to fine-tune the controls as they felt clunky to me. I often overpowered a shot because I had no real feeling when handling the right thumb stick in order to shoot. It always increased speeds too quickly and I saw my ball leave the course more than once. This is also my biggest problem with the game, aside from the sometimes lengthy loading screens.

When you enter a world, sometimes the loading times will feel just a tad too long, considering this is an eShop game, the game installed itself on my fast MicroSD card, so that should not have been the reason. Don’t get me wrong, we are not talking loading times like a minute prior to starting a match, more like 15 to 20ish seconds, which just felt too long.

Now, the game itself, which was quite enjoyable, is a sight for sore eyes, it is really enjoyable and while it is your basic minigolf game, the actual gameplay does not really need explanation, you know how this game works!

One thing that is kind of strange, when you enter into the solo play, you got the basic tournaments, the editor, a course browser and quick play.

The basic tournaments had 1 weird feature, you always have like 4 worlds where you first need to pass all the easy levels in all four to advance to the medium levels after which you need to pass all of them to head into the hard mode. This did not really make sense to me and felt like I was playing too many easy levels consecutively. Boring? Maybe! I wish I could skip this part, but at the same time, it is a great way to get used to the clunky controls. We all want that hole in one every time, right?

The course browser pits you against levels other players made in the extensive editor, where you have tons and tons of options, this is what makes the game worth buying, you can just keep making new courses as long as you have inspiration and make this game truly infinite.

In conclusion, this game is really infinite as you can keep making golf courses for as long as you find the inspiration, but considering the amount of items you have at hand, that should not prove to be much of a problem, the problem, however, is in the controls of this game, you need to be very careful to put the ball and I feel like it could be better.

When I thought about how to rate this game, I had 2 parts, the good and also the bad, I chose to opt for the middle solution being a 70% rating, while the game is infinite and can basically be the perfect 5 minute game on the go, I personally hope for improved controls and it would not hurt to introduce a little more information during the game, like how the shop really works, ….

I would recommend the game for all gamers that casually love minigolf!
