June comes to an end, a busy month for gaming and Gaming Boulevard. Thanks to E3 we could talk about a lot of great new upcoming games and dream about the ones that will release in the future. Let’s conclude this special E3 month with our personal top 10 of E3 2017 moments. Here we go!
10) Skyrim, Skyrim everywhere (Bethesda)
Let’s start this list with something that the internet is still talking about, the Skyrim remakes! The game originally released back in 2011 and was one of the most popular games of that generation. Needless to say, Bethesda likes Skyrim and want everybody to play their amazing game. Even years after the original release, the company is still making remakes and remasters. This E3 we learned that you could play as Link in Skyrim on Nintendo Switch or you could walk around in the gorgeous world with your PSVR thanks to Skyrim VR. Great reveals for those who haven’t played Skyrim before if those gamers still exist.
9) Dragon Ball Fighter Z reveal (Bandai Namco)
The reveal of Dragon Ball Fighter Z got a lot of fans excited. It’s a game a lot of fans have been waiting on for years. No MMO influences this time, this Fighter Z brings the franchise back to its roots, fighting one on one (or three on three) while using those incredible Dragon Ball powers. The best thing about the game is how it looks, there’s simply no difference between the game and the animated game. It’s coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One but Nintendo Switch owners are already asking Bandai Namco to bring this on to Nintendo Switch, based on the incredible action we understand this demand.
8) Shadow of the Colossus returns (PlayStation)
Shadow of the Colossus is an iconic PlayStation 2 game where you had to fight giant enemies in order to survive. It’s a game that wasn’t as predictable as most back in those days and in the end, it was a game that got you thinking about your actions. Since a lot of companies are currently remastering their old masterpieces, it wasn’t that much of a surprise that PlayStation decided to bring back one of their remarkable game to PlayStation 4. A lot of fans are hyped to play this remastered version and based on the original game, you might want to get hyped as well. This is an incredible game and an incredible reveal.
7) Pirates are the new zombies (Ubisoft)
Pirates are hot right now. It seems like developers like to create pirate games. Zombies are so last generation! Ubisoft is going all out with the Pirates theme in their new IP called Skull and Bones. It’s a game that really makes sense from Ubisoft’s perspective. They already created some great naval combat for Assassin’s Creed, so why not create a game around it? Skull and Bones is the next big step forward and puts you in command of pirate ships on the open sea. Epic sea battles, mysterious monsters and online multiplayer, it’s all here. The reveal of this new IP definitely deserves a spot on our list.
6) Devolver Digital’s press conference
Chances are high you’ve missed out on the Devolver Digital press conference. It started a couple of hours after the Bethesda conference and focussed on the upcoming Indie games of Devolver Digital. No new games were revealed during the conference, that lasted one hour, but that’s nothing to worry about. Devolver Digital thought it was funny to create a conference filled with over the top marketing stunts fails of other companies. This resulted in the most hilarious conference ever seen in Los Angeles. Definitely worth looking up if you want to have a good laugh!
5) Super Mario Odyssey trailer (Nintendo)
No conference from Nintendo but another digital Spotlight this year. The Spotlight itself was over very quickly and could have been a bit longer, including some more new games but it did have a wonderful new Super Mario Odyssey trailer. Super Mario returns on Nintendo Switch and brings a lot of great action. The trailer was filled with great moments such as the return of Pauline, the ability to transform into a dinosaur and a lot more. The trailer only got us more excited to play the game for ourselves!
4) Cuphead finally gets a release date (Xbox)
Man, I’ve been looking forward to Cuphead for years! It has been revealed for Xbox One and Windows 10 a couple of years ago but suffered from delays over and over again. Now, we finally learned the game will release on September 29th, which isn’t that far away! Cuphead is a retro run-and-gun platformer with a heavy focus on boss battles. It is animated in a style reminiscent of 1930s cartoon, published by Microsoft
3) Tons of respect for Miyamoto (Ubisoft)
We enter the top 3 of E3 moments and kick off with the start of the Ubisoft presentation. The conference started with the Mario + Rabbis game, combining the legendary Super Mario world with that of Ubisoft’s Rabbids. It’s a unique game that’s developed with the help of Miyamoto himself. Asking this legendary man on stage was a great start but the emotions of the creative director really made the difference. Finally being able to talk about his vision while being announced by Miyamoto brought the creative director on the verge of tears. Tears of pride and joy that is.
2) Metroid Prime 4 and Pokémon are coming (Nintendo)
Is it cheating to include two games on one spot, it’s not! During the Nintendo Spotlight, Nintendo revealed two games without a single piece of artwork of game footage. Metroid Prime 4 and Pokémon are both coming to Nintendo Switch. That’s all they said but it almost destroyed the internet. Fans have been waiting for Metroid Prime 4 for years and a major Pokémon game on a Nintendo console is something they’ve been asking for even longer. Now those two things are finally happening on Nintendo Switch and that’s simply amazing. Reason to celebrate!
1) Beyond Good & Evil 2 is real (Ubisoft)
This reveal is one we’ll remember for the next couple of years. Ubisoft traditionally closes their conference with one big game to leave the audience amazed. Last year we got Steep, this year we finally got Beyond Good & Evil 2. That’s right, the game is real and it’s looking even better than you might have thought. The game is a prequel of the first one and lets you discover a giant system filled with planets to discover without any loading times. It’s an incredibly big project but Ancel Michel was moved to tears when he finally revealed his project to the world. The best reveal on the list and perhaps one of the best E3 reveals ever.
And that concludes another list, thank you for reading! Is your personal E3 moment missing? Don’t be shy to let us know. If not, we’ll see you at the end of next month, for another top 10 list.
