Welcome to our preview of Miitopia, the Role Playing Game reinvented by Nintendo!

Ok, ok, I know what you are thinking, how can anyone reinvent an entire genre? Well trust me, Nintendo did it, making the first side scrolling Roleplaying game! And they did an amazing job making this game, filled it with hilarious jokes and amazing new RPG-classes!

Let us start with the premise of the game itself, everything is based upon the use of Mii-characters, you even design the villain yourself, how awesome was that I ended up with a really evil looking villain, it was so cool!

For the main hero, obviously you can import a Mii into the game to play with, I decided to make one from scratch. A very intuitive process, easy to set up, chose my “class”, had a great laugh when I saw the “pop star” option, ended up choosing a mage, but I have to be honest, I seriously doubted to go all out by choosing a pop star as my class, but hey, I usually pick the mage class when I play RPGs…

The story itself begins when you arrive in town and suddenly all the faces of all the Miis in town are stolen by the villain, a woman asks you to bring back the face of her cheeky son, who honestly looked really old, one of many many jokes they put in the game! You accept the mission and start chasing the villain.

Once outside, the game is unlike most other RPGs, it is easy, you are in a world and can head to any of the directions they offer you, which is usually “straight forward”, mind the pun. It will make sense when you are playing yourselves, trust me 🙂

When you head to a new direction, the game will not just randomly head into a battle, no no, you get small animation prior to any battles, I suggest you taking a close look at them, because they hid several jokes into them, such as tripping over rocks, …

In the first few moments after starting this game, I just had this feeling that Nintendo got things right for this game, adding characters to your party, finding inns along the way, eating the spoils of battle, improving the relationship with others in your party, …

Another thing that was fun and new, the enemies basically have the stolen faces of the Miis on them, making for some very funny and/or weird enemies, I had one enemy so far, that looked a lot like Dobby, the house elf in the Harry Potter movies, I had a moth with a real ugly face on it, … Often making me move between DAMN and OMG! You just have to play it to see for yourself!

In conclusion, from what little I played this game, I really felt like I did not want to stop at any point, I was often laughing out loud and interrupted my friend next to me to make him look at the fun stuff going on on my console (Ed. He did…. Taking my focus away from Hey! Pikmin). Everything felt fresh, the auto battle system felt comfortable, the game never felt boring or complicated and the entire premise of the game, it looked like so much fun! I can’t wait to play more!
