Just Cause 3 released back in September 2015 and made a lot of gamers more than happy. The amount of freedom on the sunny island was something that got gamers going for months. A couple of DLC packs and new weapons later, the Gold Edition hits the market, making it almost impossible to ignore if you haven’t played Just Cause 3 before. Is it really made of gold? Or is it just a filler to wait for the Holiday season? Let’s find out!
The Gold Edition
First things first, this isn’t a new game but some kind of ‘Game of the Year’ bundle of Just Cause 3 combined with every DLC pack that ever released and some new weapons and skins. If you want to read more about the base game, I recommend you to read our original review of Just Cause 3, since the game didn’t change in this Gold Edition. Instead, this review will focus on the added content and see if this new deal is worth your time, attention and money.
The first thing you’ll need to know is that this deal comes with the Sky Fortress, Mech Land, Sea Heist and Weaponized Vehicle Pack, Explosive Weapon Pack, Reaper Missile Mech and Kousavá Rifle DLC packs. As you can see, the developers really added a lot of content to their base game during the years so this deal surely is a welcomed, although rather late, bundle.
A lot of extras
As you can see, a lot of extra content was released to improve the gameplay over the years. Before we jump into the DLC packs, it’s worth pointing out that most of the bugs that plagued the original release are solved in this version so you won’t get stuck in certain segments of the game. That’s a nice improvement right from the start since the number of bugs in the original release was just too high. The Gold Edition comes with every post-release patch already installed and is here to give you the best and most fluent gaming experience possible.
That being said, the DLC packs really add something to the game. First of all, the three story packs offer some new insights into the story and especially some new toys to mess around with. The first one, Sky Fortress introduces you to a more sci-fi setting, even giving you access to a jetpack on steroids. It offers a fun new setting and new gear to discover. The other two DLC packs offer giant Mechs to control and Sea based battles, all adding an extra element to the already great base game. It’s great to have these packs available right from the start since they really add something to the game. Replaying Just Cause 3 is a lot of fun thanks to the ability to fight on land, water and in the skies. It really is the most complete deal.
The other DLC packs add more vehicles and weapons to your arsenal, really opening up a lot of new ways to bring down your enemies. Some of the packs were pre-order bonuses so it’s great to have them years after the initial release. Those packs aren’t as impressive as the story packs but it’s fun to have them included.
A pretty sandbox
Without the added DLC, this still is the same Just Cause 3 as before. Meaning you still play as Rico Rodriguez on the sunny island of Medici where you’re trying to defeat an evil dictator. That’s everything about the story you need to know. Just Cause 3 never was created to tell an emotional story, instead, it’s meant to have a lot of fun. Just like games like Grand Theft Auto, you’re completely free to go where you want to go. The difference with GTA is that Just Cause 3 is packed with crazy weapons, a lot of explosions and weird physics.
The star of the action is your grappling hook. With this tool, you’re able to move over the map at high-speed. You can even attach yourself to fast vehicles and thanks to the added DLC, there are a lot of new vehicles and weapons to discover. It’s without a doubt one of the most fun sandbox games on the market and although it’s created back in 2015, it still looks good!
Conclusion
Just Cause 3 Gold Edition still offers the same amount of craziness that Just Cause 3 offered but throws some great DLC packs on top of that. If you haven’t played it before, the Gold Edition is the perfect starting point. It originally released back in 2015 but it still feels like a modern game and still looks amazing. It’s a little strange to receive this bundle after all those years but don’t let this hold you back to start your own crazy adventure.
