What a week for Overwatch! We have a lot of news to cover and even though I wanted to report it
straight away I waited for a few moments for all the news to come in because a lot was happening and a lot of rumors.
But now I want to give you my predictions and facts of the following weeks.
I will start with the smaller news first.
Visual update King’s Row
There was a visual update for the King’s Row map. In the PTR there is a new update for the King’s Row map. Now instead of Dark alleyways, you get some more lit up streets. Textures are a bit better and just the general look is more lit up. In my opinion, it’s not that good because London in Overwatch has a “reputation” of a dark city where Omnics were badly treated. But maybe it has something to do with the event that I will talk about further in the article.
Widow statue
Overwatch released a new statue of Widowmaker. Like always it is hand sculpted and hand painted. Explaining the high price. But if you want the statue of your favorite waifu you should be quick, because when it is sold out, it could be a very long time until they make it again. Tracer’s statue is sold out since a long time and hasn’t been sold again since then.
Mercy dungeon boss leak
This is just a rumor but some time ago Lucie Pohl, Mercy’s voice actor, posted a picture on Instagram stating she’s back in the studio. This could mean a lot of things. Behind her we see a paper with all kinds of voice lines, mostly striped out. But on the paper we can see “Dungeon Boss”. The suspicious thing about this post is that it was deleted afterward. Did she show something we weren’t supposed to see? But anyway this could mean many things. The obvious one is that it is for Overwatch. But it could also be for World of Warcraft or maybe she will be the next hero on Heroes Of The Storm. But if this is for Overwatch then it means there is a new game mode on the way! Something that even Jeff Kaplan talked about some time ago.
Overwatch AMA Jeff Kaplan
At the start of this week, Jeff Kaplan had an Ask Me Anything where he said that 2017 will be a good year for skins. There was even a thread on the site asking for which hero we wanted a skin. McCree had won this poll so probably our favorite cowboy will get some love from the developers.
Declassification tweet
We did not know when we could expect these skins, but they could be closer than we think! Soon after that Overwatch released this tweet. I talked about this in an earlier article where I analyzed it. But in general, you can expect what will happen on the 11th of April.
NEW EVENT!
Soon after that tweet everyone started theorizing. And I think it is safe to assume a new event is on the way. Called the Omnic Crisis event. Everything falls into place. Lucie Pohl’s voice lines are maybe used for this event. Jeff Kaplan talked about a new game mode and this will probably something in the style of Left For Dead but against Omnics. Or at least that’s what I hope. Anyway, there will be new skins and a new game mode.
New comic
There was also a new comic released called “uprising”, which cleared a lot of things up. I think it is situated when Overwatch was not yet disbanded and right at the moment that Amelie Lacroix, aka Widowmaker, killed her husband. In the comic you can see that an Overwatch official was killed. Many believe that this is Gerard Lacroix, Amelie’s husband. But in this time, Overwatch has a lot less power. London is suffering from the pressure of an Omnic terrorist group called null’s sector. Commander Morrison wants to intervene but because of the Petras pact he is not allowed.
A fun sidenote is that here we learn how Tracer gets here famous one-liner. “Cheers love, the cavalry’s here!”
