I am a long time gamer, having owned all Nintendo consoles from the very first NES, I have a deep love for older games. I often went to arcades and I did play my fair share of 2D fighters, the arcade near my school was one of the best!
World Heroes Perfect has to be one of the tougher old arcade games I know, having tried the eShop version now on the Nintendo Switch, I can pretty much confirm this!
It was difficult back then and either I got worse or this game got even harder, haha, I am laughing because of the irony of this all, I used to brag way back then with how good I was at these games, it pales in comparison to my current state of play.
Even after turning down the difficulty to level 1, the damage to minimal, I still had a really hard time! But it did not hold me back, kept entering coins, like a good old arcade, and pretty much kept trying.
Having a sudden burst of nostalgia, I noticed something quite a few old 2D fighting games have, the counter to show how many time you press continue. The last two digits in your score represent the times you “entered” the coin to keep playing.
Another tidbit I noticed, the game seemed a little too dark, graphicswise, not that it was disturbing or anything, I just remember most of the old arcade games as very vibrant, which this game was not (enough)!
When you start up the game, you are met with a ton of settings, the quick instructions on how to play compared to an arcade stick and then you head to the roster of fighters, 16 of them to pick from, ranging from strong and slow to weak but very fast. Some even sport weapons, another guy is a big rugby player, yeah, a bunch of very colorful fighters!
In conclusion, this may not come as much as a surprise, but World Heroes Perfect has some issues with being too difficult on the entry level. If you are looking for a challenge, I can only recommend it!
I would give this old skool game a 6 out of 10 for casual gamers. Hardcore gamers may rate it higher, but I just could not…
Much like my other review of a Neo Geo classic, I will be revisiting this game when I get my hands on an arcade stick!
