Note: The demo PlayStation had technical difficulties so this part will cover the presentation. The hands-on of the game will come tomorrow.
Another year another WWE game. What improvements or features did 2k add this year to spice things up?
When I sat down for the presentation of 2K’s WWE game I was greeted with a picture of everyone’s block faced, sword tattooed UFC/wretstleman Brock Lesnar. Immediately I thought this could either be the best or the worst presentation ever. Turns out it’s a bit of both. The slogan for this game is “welcome to Suplex City” and the team takes that to heart. Their website(which they talked a fair bit about) is literally Suplex City. The entire place is a desolate hellscape with only little trinkets that remind you of wrestlers who have entered said city of suplex and never returned. It’s fun to see the team doing something a little goofier. You can find out for yourself here. There also were some promotional videos that felt like the most awkward and forced “Pre-order our game now” videos I have ever seen. It’s not all awkward sunshines and rainbows however.

Anytime the game was brought up I felt like there were a few problems.
For around three years 2K is trying to change the WWE games from an arcade-like game to a simulation game. The problem is that it seems like fans don’t really want that. It seems like the team is genuinely listening to its fanbase but just ignores the biggest requests because they don’t fit in 2K’s grand plan. During the presentation, it was mentioned that the new game is filled with new ideas but everything the spokesperson said sounded very PR-ish without actually saying what those ideas are. The good thing about the game is that a feature from older games is back. And that feature is the ability to fight in the crowd and backstage. It’s a nice feature to bring back. Overall I’m not really convinced. But I’m not going to judge the game until I actually touch it. Which is tomorrow. Stay tuned for more in the next part.
