Gamescom 2016: The Crew: Calling All Units – Preview

The Crew had a rocky start. Despite this, it managed to persevere the odds. Now after the Wild Run DLC it’s bringing some new stuff to the table in the form of Calling All Units. I got to play a few matches of the new DLC. Come and read what I thought about it.

Calling All Units will do a few things. First off the level cap will be raised to 60 and you will get twelve new Story Missions. You know how it goes already. You are the best of the best. Only you can stop them. Yada yada. The car roster is also going to grow but it wasn’t stated how many cars will be added, one of those cars is the Jeep Wrangler. Don’t ask me which cars because cars never have easy names. There was a Lamborghini, that’s a car. But by far the biggest new thing is that you will be able to play as the cops. You will get new cars, and mechanics are going to change when you play as cops. They never went into any specifics however.

I got to play three matches of the new competitive multiplayer mode. There are a ton of packages scattered all over the world. Once it’s picked, up the police closest to you will start to hunt you down. As the carrier you have a flashbang attack and unlimited nitro for, ironically only a limited time. The police gets a jammer that makes the player automatically swerve and a recon helicopter that slows down enemy drivers in its range. These moves have a cooldown timer to avoid spamming. The job of the carriers is easy enough to understand, you have to bring the package from one point to another. The police has to arrest the opposing team. This is done by driving right next to the car for a certain amount of seconds. It was seven when we played but the way the crew was talking about it might imply it could be changed. It’s incredibly fun. At many times there were intense moments and people were just screaming and shouting all over the place due to excitement. We got to play as both cops and carriers and both sides were fun enough to use. If I had one complaint it’s that I felt that the cops’ abilities were fairly weak or it was really unclear if the attack had any impact. Once the match was over I was rewarded with car pieces. Once all pieces of a specific car are collected, you will get that car. The game is going to be sold as DLC but it’s also going to be packaged in with the original game and all it’s DLC as some kind of Game of The Year Edition. Calling All Units will release on November 29th on Playstation 4, Pc and Xbox One.
