Bioshock is one of those games that got everyone hyped for the next big thing. Bioshock did something very new with its combat system and the setting was one of the best settings i’ve ever experienced. For those who may not now much about the series “Bioshock”, it’s a first person shooter set in an underwater “Utopian”city where things got pretty messed up very quickly. The game was officially released for the Xbox 360 and PC but later on, there was a port for the PS3 as well. It quickly became one of those classics with a lot of potential and a bright future. It’s a classic and it’s back again, but even more beautiful than it has ever been before.
The game’s story is all about the main character Jack who’s plane got crashed into the middle of the ocean with not much hope to survive. As Jack looks around for help, he finds himself swimming towards this big lighthouse to get himself to safety. What he didn’t know was the fact that this was the entrance to this “Utopian” city where people got addicted to Adam, a genetic substant that can alter your own DNA code to gain some new abilities. He takes down the elevator into this city that lies at the bottom of the ocean. From the moment the elevator reached his destination, he knew this wasn’t the safehaven he expected. He’ll have to fight off these maniacs, get some answers and find his way out of this mad place. Eventually he’s able to strike fear into the hearts of these addicts but he can’t help but notice that there’s an even bigger threat lurking from the shadows.
Jack will be able to use weapons and plasmids to overcome these threats. The game isn’t just a a first- person shooter only but it also has these little RPG elements that make the game whole. Each challenge can be conquered in the way you want it to be. Be stealthy, or be a run-and-gun type of fellow with guns blazing and plasmids. These plasmids can also be used to solve different puzzles. Sometime a door will be blocked because the opening mechanism hasn’t got any power, so you just use shock and the door will open. You can loot the enemies that you’ve defeated to get some useful items, ADAM and money. With this money you can upgrade your weapons to give an additional bonus to that weapon and ADAM provides you with enough resources to buy plasmids.
Later this year, a collection of Bioshock will appear which will include Bioshock 1, Bioshock 2, Bioshock Infinite and all of the DLC packs. This collection will be made available for Xbox One and PS4 owners. The PC gamers won’t receive this collection but all of the Bioshock titles will get a downloadable patch to upgrade these versions to the high standards. Except for the Bioshock Infinite because infinite’s PC version “already meets current-gen console standards,” says publisher 2K. This remastered version won’t include anything new, aside from a walkable museum of concepts that didn’t make it into the Bioshock franchise and a series of commentary videos about the game.
The main goal of producing this collection was to upgrade the game’s framerate and graphics. Bioshock 1 & 2 are the two games that really have been improved: the textures are crispier, higher-resolution images and the effect of water has drastically been improved to look more “real”. It’s definitely a graphical upgrade but the game doesn’t really feel “better”. It already had high standers when the first game launched and with these graphical improvements, it’s like a flashback of how I felt about this masterpiece a couple of years ago. This collection will just motivate myself to play it once more before it fades to the background.
If you haven’t played the game yet, this is the perfect opportunity to buy it and experience the game play first hand.
