Shotguns, let’s talk about them. Also called boomsticks and used in movies and series as the go to weapon. And games arent to unfamiliar with the lil’ slugger. And games have some of the coolest versions of the gun. And that’s why I’m here. To pick and talk about my favorite version of the guntype. So with that said. Let’s lock, stock and load.
#10:VC8 shotgun pistol(Killzone 3)
Shotguns are cool because of their power and size. But sometimes a shotgun is just to big, sometimes you just need a sidearm. But what if I told you you can have a sidearm that’s a shotgun? Well then the VC8 shotgun pistol is just the thing for you. It’s the same size as a pistol with all the shotgun features you like. Well maybe not the pump-action but for the rest it has everything you need. One of the cooler features is that the pistol has three barrels allowing you to fire three times before reloading. In reality this gun can’t exist because the power of firing a shotgun shell from a pistol with no extra support would be an absolute disaster. Nonetheless the gun is super rad and it’s three barrels allow you to shoot as many Helghast as you want. All the power of a shotgun in the palm of your hand. Now if only it had four barrels…

Blowing off Helghast helmets three at a time.
#9.Resident evil Shotgun(Resident Evil series)
Here comes a shotgun that isn’t defined by name or what it does but rather it’s usefulness in the game itself. The shotgun in resident evil is the perfect gun. While stronger than your sidearm and weaker than most power weapons, what make the shotgun so useful is the fact that in most games you find a decent amount of ammo for it. While you keep the magnum or grenade launcher for bosses or groups of enemies you can alway rely on the shotgun to bail you out in sticky situations with plenty of ammo to spare. It becomes especially useful in REmake since it can blow of the head of zombies at close range only by aiming up when they are close. This means no pesky Crimsom Heads. Special shout-outs go to the way you acquire the gun in the first game.

The roles are reversed when you have a shotgun.
#8.gnasher shotgun(gears of war 3)
Now this one has taken quite some lives. One of the most reliable weapons a Cog can have when getting down and dirty. The Gnasher serves the use of a standard shotgun in campaign, but in multiplayer it takes no a whole different role. A multiplayer match of gears usually revolves around two people jumping, dodging and rolling right next to each other all while trying to get that perfect gibshot in what little time the player takes to aim. seriously, it’s just two people doing tac-rolls while blind-firing. It’s broad design and no iron sights is just a testament to the fact that this gun is not meant to aim with. I also like that this shotgun is the only shotgun on the list that is lever-action, meaning that to eject an empty shell instead of pumping you pull a lever under the trigger. It’s a mechanic that’s outdated but looks cool as hell.

Blindfire is the true way to use this gun.
#7.Boneduster(Bulletstorm)
Now this is a gun that’s more suited for a real man, like me. Two barrels? Fuck that! This badass motherfucker has four. It’s perfect for the men who are twice as manly as those weak pussies who use double-barreled shotguns. Max, Ash,Doomguy how about you guy get on Grayson’s level and try four barrels instead of two measly poppers. This gun does some serious damage and if real would never be used. Can you imagine firing this thing for real? You would dislocate your shoulder or it just might even fly off. But here? Just use your leash to get ’em in close, and blow those assholes to smithereens.

Four barrels for four times the fun.
#6.TAC-19(Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare)
There is just one reason this shotgun is in. And it’s the fact that it shoots shock waves. It just looks really cool. Advanced Warfare marked the point where I got slightly interested into the games again. It’s mainly because of this gun. There is just something cool about a shotgun that shoots shock waves. The fact that it’s pump-action and you have to reload the slug manually makes it even better. It looks sleek, is a handy tool in close quarter and you just feel like a bad-ass knocking back enemies. Now if only it shot red pulses we’d be set.

Can this technically be considered a shotgun? Ehhh who cares, it looks cool as hell.
#5.Scatter Gun Mod(Jak 3)
When a horde of metalheads come at you and you need some breathing space, The scattergun mod will suffice. This is actually a mod for a gun that can be several different guns. Being able to change your shotgun into a rifle, RPG or even minigun is a great feature. That being said you will mostly fall back on the Scattergun mod when more than one enemy starts attacking. The gun shoots a red wave of energy in front of it knocking all caught in it to the ground. I also really like the sound it makes. Oh and the fact that it can carry a maximum of 150 shot without reloading is also a nice addition.

150 shells without the need to reload and it fires a red pulse? Count me in!
#4. Halo 3 shotgun(Halo 3)
This shotgun is on here not because of its special features or power. It’s on here purely because of nostalgic reasons. Not only does the Halo 3 shotgun look cool and just about every time I played on a map with the gun I would alway go and get it. The gun is just so much fun to use. It’s reload animation and pump-action animation are just so satisfying. The sound it makes when you fire is great too. It’s design is solid and Bungie made sure everything about the shotgun is satisfying. If that doesn’t deserve a spot on the list then I don’t know what does.

When staring down the apocalypse nothing will beat this round, black and blue neon lighted shotgun.
#3.Metal Slug Shotgun(Metal Slug 2)
Now this shotgun might be the most ridiculous and powerful shotgun on the list. Metal Slug’s shotgun is a gun that basically vaporizes the enemy when hit. You see a bright flash and then just remnants of blood flying around of what used to be soldiers. Truly with this shotgun you were unstoppable. Just avoid picking up any other weapons and you are ready to destroy everything. While it looks like most shotguns its power is sure to put it high up on the list. Who needs tanks when you have a boomstick that can make things disappear? I know what I would pick.

Just press the button and see everyone disappear.
#2.SPAS-12(just about everything)
On the number 2 spot is this black, big and imposing badass. It’s iconic look can be recognised with its black design and circular holes in the stock on the top the gun. And the coolest thing… it’s a real gun. Now I don’t think real guns are a good thing necessarily but the SPAS-12 just looks so fucking cool. One of the cool things about this gun is that there is an ammo type called Dragonbreath which is incendiary ammo. So this shotgun can shoot fire. The gun is iconic and can be seen in games like Call of Duty, Uncharted, Battlefield and many many more. It’s design alone is what made it so legendary and featured in so many games.

It’s design is iconic and the idea that this cool thing is real is the coolest thing about it.
#1.Doom Super Shotgun (and Twin Barrels in general)(Doom 2)
Ok so I know I said The Boneduster is more badass but let’s be honest. Nothing beats a good ol’ twin barrel. When you think of the best double-barreled shotgun you automatically think of Super Shotgun of Doom 2. It’s by far the most iconic and the most fun shotgun to use in any game ever. It’s triple the power of the regular shotgun at the cost of reloading after only two shots. While the Super Shotgun from Doom 2 is number one this spot it’s more of a celebration for double-barreled shotguns in general. The two shots and hastily reloading trying to survive whatever come at you is exhilarating. whether it would be demons from hell, Nazi’s, zombies or just about anything you will alway want a boomstick close by.

Nothing beats double-barreled fun. No matter what game.
And that’s my list. These are the shotguns I would like to keep handy, for close encounters. If you dissagree with me let me know. Join me within a month and see what my next list is going to be. Until then.
