Ubisoft’s Far Cry Primal will release in stores next week. Since it features a lot of deadly creatures, you’re better prepared before you enter the digital environments. What can you expect to find in Far Cry Primal? Time to shine a light on the deadliest creatures that once roamed the Earth.
First of all, it’s important to know that a lot of the animals of Far Cry: Primal aren’t extinct but in this special, we focus on the extinct species. Let’s take a look at the deadly creatures.
Woolly Mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius)
Probably one of the biggest animals in the game. These animals are comparable to the Asian Elephants we’ve encountered in Far Cry 4, meaning you’ll better run when you see these bad boys running towards you. We have seen the Woolly Mammoth in action during several trailers and it looks as deadly as a real elephant. These will definitely come down hard since you’re only able to use prehistoric weapons. Ubisoft revealed some pre-order DLC missions where you can actually control the Mammoth. Count us excited!
Saber Tooth Tiger (Smilodon fatalis)
Ah, the Saber Tooth Tiger, one of the most loved prehistoric animals. These are as fast as normal tigers but have two big deadly teeth to bring down their opponents. Fighting them will be challenging for sure but it seems like you’ll actually be able to make them your friend. Early footage already showed a Saber Tooth companion. Yes, that’s probably the most badass companion ever. Definitely something else than the boring cats we call pets today (no offense cat lovers).
Cave Bear (Ursus spelaeus)
A big brown deadly bear that likes to be in caves. Imagine this: You’re walking around in the open world of Far Cry: Primal, enter a cave and see a big deadly bear. What would you do? Run for your life of course! If you’ve seen ‘The Revenant’, you know bears don’t really appreciate unwanted company. Also keep in mind that does Cave Bears are huge and you’ll want to stay away from them as far as possible. These will be comparable to the Moon Bears of Far Cry 4 for sure.
Irish Elk (Megaloceros giganteus)
The Irish Elk, probably the biggest moose that roamed the Earth. These animals aren’t dangerous at all and will enjoy their peace. They just want to eat their vegetables. Of course, you’ll need some food in Far Cry: Primal and what better way to find some fresh meat than killing those majestic animals? I don’t think they’ll enjoy those attacks and if you attack an Elk, you’re definitely in for some trouble. I mean, have you seen those antlers?!
Dire Wolf (Canis dirus)
Any ‘Game of Thrones’ fans in the house? If you’ve seen the show, you’ll know what Dire Wolves are. If you haven’t, let me explain them to you. Remember those stories of the big bad wolf? Well there you have your Dire Wolf. Dire Wolves are huge and deadly, so trying to fight them will often end in your death. So why fight them right? Just like the Saber Tooth Tiger, it seems like you can control Dire Wolves as your companion. That’s right, you’ll have your very own Ghost pretty soon.
Woolly Rhinoceros (Coelodonta antiquitatis)
Oh man, these guys look fluffy right? We’ll they’re so fluffy you’ll probably die. Wooly Rhinoceroses were able to live in very cold climates, resulting in their woolly fur. This also means that your weapons won’t penetrate their skin easily. I honestly don’t have an idea how you would take down these animals in Far Cry: Primal but if I hunted those, I would call in the help of my Saber Tooth or Dire Wolf for sure!
Cave Lion (Panthera leo spelaea)
The Cave Lion is comparable to the tigers you found in Far Cry 4. These animals are a little smaller than some of the others here on the list but that doesn’t mean they aren’t deadly. If they are similar to the tigers, they’ll be fast and hard to hit, certainly if you’re forced to use prehistoric weapons. Since they are a little smaller, it might work to train them as your new companion but we haven’t seen this in any footage yet.
Giant Golden Crocodile (Crocodylus bugtiensis)
The Giant Golden Crocodile sounds like a challenge for Crocodile Dundee but we’re afraid he won’t be able to tell his story after he meets this one. Think they’ll resemble the Mugger Crocodiles but a lot bigger. One thing’s for sure, you won’t see me running towards the water unless it’s really necessary. Facing a Giant Golden Crocodile sounds like a story you won’t survive to tell.
Californian Tapir (Tapirus californicus)
Well, those don’t look very dangerous right? They actually aren’t that dangerous but will serve as the source for food if you ask us. Comparable to the Malayan Tapirs of Far Cry 4. If you don’t harm them, they’ll ignore you but beware of their counterattacks however. Nobody likes to be killed so these guys won’t go out without a fight!

So that it for the confirmed extinct species in Far Cry: Primal. Will the game feature some more, hidden animals? We’re pretty sure it will! The cave paintings of the trailers already showed us Wild Horses and something that could be Ice Age Bisons, Wisents, or perhaps the famous Aurochs. We’ll know for sure in a week, happy hunting!
