Predictions: Super Smash Direct June 14th

As you might have heard already, Nintendo is holding a special Smash direct on Sunday June 14th to talk about the update. On that day, Nintendo will launch Lucas, the MiiVerse stage and some costumes as DLC. But is this really the only thing they’ll talk about? We doubt it! Time to give you our predictions.

The Obvious

First of all it’s no surprise that the direct will reveal a lot of details about new DLC character Lucas. Lucas is a returning character so the fans want to know what remained to same and what changed. We’re sure Sakurai will reveal all those details during the Direct. We expect to see a lot of Lucas and we expect it to be good!

Aside of Lucas, Nintendo will also finally launch the MiiVerse stage, this stage was revealed almost a year ago, so it’s really time to release it. It’s a fun new chaotic stage and we expect to see some typical footage of the fighters on the stage.

Last stop are the costumes. This update will bring in some cool new costumes such as the Inkling costumes, transforming your Mii’s into the famous Inklings found in Splatoon.

All in all this isn’t a bad line-up and we’re sure many of you are already excited to see all of this but let’s be honest, this can’t be it. Time to start speculating.

The 1.0.8. update

First thing you’ll need to take into consideration is what new the 1.0.8. update will bring to the game. The 1.0.6. update that launched together with Mewtwo, brought some tweaks and better balance but we hope this one will do more. We’re hoping on the inclusion of a Tournament Mode. Fans are asking for it since the launch of Smash and now that the Nintendo World Championship got revived, it’s the perfect time to launch the Tournament Mode.

The update will bring some better balance to some characters and final tweaking for sure but we’re really hoping that the Tournament Mode is part of the update as well.

More costumes

We would also love to see more costumes. Now that the Mii characters got some classic costumes we’re already dreaming about what could be added to the list. The Inkling costume is great but costumes of Animal Crossing, Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright, Ridley and Mega Man Zero would make the world a better place. Can you image how great your Mii character will look? We sure can! That’s why we hope to see a lot more costumes during the Direct on Sunday!

More characters

Highest on our wish list are new characters for sure. We’ll see Lucas but we’re hoping for more. Since this Direct gets aired just days before E3, it looks like Nintendo won’t spend a lot of attention to Smash during the Digital Event on June 16. This means there’s hope for a new character reveal. But who will it be.

Since it’s Smash, we’ll never know for sure but there’s a possibility it could be one of these:

  • Wolf: Some call it a Fox clone but most see the differences and want him back in the game. With the launch of Star Fox in our minds it won’t be strange to see Wolf return to the field.
  • Snake: Another character fans want to see is Snake. He was a guest in Brawl but isn’t playable in the new Smash. Since Konami is in some trouble lately it seems hard to actually bring him back to the game but who really knows right?
  • Inkling boy/girl: Splatoon, the new shooter IP of Nintendo is doing great and is building a community step by step. What could promote the game better than a playable Inkling in Smash? A long shot but we hope to see it happen!
  • Roy: Found in the Fire Emblem franchise and part of Melee, Roy was a fan favorite but didn’t make the cut in recent games. If they bring him back they’ll need to tweak his attacks, we don’t need another Marth clone.
  • Ryu: The Street Fighter icon Ryu is said to be found in some hidden sound-files on the Smash disc. Do we believe it? Not really but it would be epic for sure! Now that Capcom and Nintendo are such good friends, the inclusion of Ryu could actually happen.
  • Rayman: And then we have Rayman, the Ubisoft icon. Rayman has a trophy in the game so why not a playable character? It could work since the design feels very ‘Smash’. Fighting with a character without arms or leg could get interesting!

What about the Fighter Ballot

So these characters could or could not be included, we simply don’t know yet. But what about the Fighter Ballot? In this Ballot, fans can pick their favorite character to be in the game. There’s no limit on who you want to suggest and votes are open for the entire world. The Ballot won’t end until October 3, so we won’t know the fan favorite yet but perhaps Sakurai will drop some hints on who’s leading and who will never be included… I’m looking at you Ridley!

More Amiibo figurines

The last item during the Direct will be new Amiibo figurines for sure. Yes, the pain isn’t over just yet since there still are fighters without Amiibo figurines. We want to see Mr. Game & Watch, R.O.B. or even Mewtwo as Amiibo during the direct. It won’t be good for our wallets but we all know we’ll hunt those new figurines until we can add them to our collection.

So this concludes our predictions. Again, nothing is sure this yet and you never know what to expect from Smash. We’re looking forward to see what’s going to happen and we hope you’ll read it here first on Sunday!
