Sony announced during the Game Developers Conference that their Virtual Reality- headset called “Project Morpheus” will be released in 2016!
The price of this headset hasn’t been given yet but they were pleased to announce that it has a refresh rate of 120Hz, which doubled the original framerate! Sony showed off a new version of the headset. This version looks a lot like the original prototype. Sony changed the 5″ LCD- screen with an OLED- screen of 5,7″ with a standard resolution of 1920×1080.
This headset wants to compete with the Vive ( the Virtual Reality product of Valve and HTC) and the Oculus Rift and they’re achieving their goal since the Vive has a refresh rate of 90Hz and the Oculus has only 75 Hz. If this wasn’t enough, Sony succeeded in bringing the latency to 18ms, the view angle has been improved to 100° and the LED’s have been expanded to 9 instead of 6.
