Leslie Benzies, Rockstar North president, said during an interview with Digital Trends that he would like to create one big world for the GTA franchise.
He wasn’t talking about a new world but more like a collection of all the GTA cities in one big playable world.
With the release of GTA V at the start of next year, Rockstar Games is quite busy at the moment but that doesn’t mean they don’t have any future plans.
One of the dreams is to create a big world, including all the previous cities:
Of course at some point we would like to have one big world containing all our cities and let the player fly between them and revisit their favorite areas, and in that context reimagining Vice City would be very interesting
But that’s not all. As you might already know, GTA is currently capturing the hearts of mobile gamers with the iOS and Android versions of GTA III and Vice City. Rockstar Games is constantly in search for good use of this new technology that comes with mobile devices. Like they innovated the GTA franchise by releasing a 2D classic GTA with Chinatown Wars.
Also the power of mobile technology is increasing so rapidly it is hard to imagine the kind of games we could be releasing for them in years to come,” he said. “Whether these are repurposed versions of existing games or entirely new IPs I couldn’t say, but if you look at Chinatown Wars you can see that we are always up for the challenge of designing games for new technologies and making the most of all their features, not just their processing power.”
As you can see, the future of the GTA franchise is looking very promising. We’ll keep you guys up to date.
